Hi Readers,
For the 13th year running a group of enthusiasts (several Hams G8MNY
G6IXM G4WGD G3TWJ) have put on a local charity fund raising 28 day broadcast
radio station (UK's Restricted Service Licence) on air until 23rd Sept, from
studios at a youth centre in Merstham Redhill very near M25/M23 junction.

The station is called "SUSY RADIO" (SUssex & SurreY) on 531kHz running just 1W
ERP, YES 1 Watt. (See my bul on the "1W 531kHz MW aerial system")

The underlying aerial site's ground conditions have usually been wet (valley
bottom) so the signal normally gets out well. The Tx & aerial system has been
inspected by the radio regulator Ofcom & all was OK despite the wide coverage.

In EU, 531kHz is the 1st channel on the MW band so a scanning Rx will pick it
up first, :-). It is a fairly clear frequency in the UK during the day, but at
night there are 3 100KW stations, a Swiss German speaking, a Spanish one & a
Fairo Isle one for the fishermen, these stations night time skip dramatically
reduce our coverage area down to the typical FM RSL coverage due to the heavy
slow beating QRM (not all 3 stations on exact frequeny!).

This is the 6th time MW has been used for the radio station. We have had some
Dx reports in the 1st week so far, but nothing like we have had in previous
years. Is this because..

1/ there are less MW radios in use/available? Only FM/DAB.
2/ there is more Mains SMPS QRM from TVs/Computers/Everything?
3/ there is more Broadband QRM affecting LF end of MW?
4/ people do not listen to conventional radio so much? (Intenet listeners up!)
5/ the signal is not as strong?

There is usually announcements on air when Dx reports come in, but also a Dx
report review on one of the last weeks programs so stay listening for details.

SUSY Radio is also on the Internet "http//www.susyradio.com" where pictures of
the station aerial & Tx (with me) & presenters can be seen, also the site
streams LIVE AUDIO in both stereo (broadband) & mono (narrow) all the time.
With the uptake in BB, this has proved very popular this year.

EMAIL studio@susyradio.com for request/DX reports etc. Requests etc, can be
phoned to the studio on Tel 0870 7650531 (nat call rate) or 01737 644259.
(Or even Texted in stay listening for that No.)

For general RSL/engineering information packet me, or telephone the station
manager Colin G4WGD on 01737 643767 Mon-Sat 09:00-17:00 (except Wednesday),
DX Reception reports would be much appreciated, to me/Colin/Email.

If anyone or a club would like a technical visit (or talk?) or would like to be
involved with the station please RSVP me.
