Jules Freundlich, W2JGR, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, became silent key
on
January 9th, 2006. Surely that's very sad news we have to hear about
his
passing. He will be missed from all of us.
This issue is dedicated to him since he was one of the first RTTY
Notes
editor; started in Oct., 1992 (RTDX1023) with Syd VK2SG John TG9VT,
Bob
WB2CJL and myself.
Licensed (and has held W2JGR) continuously since 1935, Jules said he
is
primarily a DXer, almost exclusively on RTTY. Worked and confirmed
333
countries. RTTY was his special interest,enyoing it because you can
keep
a hard copy of the contact, saving your voice and you dont have to be
a
CW expert.
Jules was livings in an ideal ham radio location, on one of the
highest
spots in the Twin Cities area. On the 14th floor of a 15-story
apartment
building with a 40-foot towers over everything around it. His
Teledyne
log periodic 10-20-meter antenna 190 feet above the ground, with a
clear
view in all directions. Jules has lived in Minneapolis since 1991,
when
he moved there from Malvern (Long Island), New York to be closer to
his
family.
He retired from Ham radio after 70 years on the bands and kindly
donated
his radio gear to the Courage Center, and has also donated $500
dollars
to TCDXA for helping with taking his equipment down. Jules has
expressed
his wishes that $250 of the donation go to the Peter I DXpedition,
and
Jim, K0JUH will see that it get sent in Jules' name.
Cant never forgot our qso on RTTY on Oct., 1991 when in Albania as
ZA1A
could give him a brand new country.
He was 76 years old on Nov., 1993 when contributed successfully with
his
petition to ARRL DXAC who finally introduced RTTY Honour Roll.
God Bless Jules you were a great friend, so hard to believe you're
gone,
can't imagine RTTY without you. Live on in our hearts and memories.
