Well, UR3IJC - it's me, so, i must say some words about my performing
bugs,
his tricks at the arena of world wide circu(it)s, which called 30 m band.
RX :
Two-tube 1-V-2 autodyne (octal dual triodes, analogs of 6SL7 and 6SN7).
The first valve 6SL7 (xUSSR 6N8S) is used as RF preamp (grounded grid)
and regenerative detector with slightly tunable 10.12 Mc crystal filter
at the regenerative circuit. Because the regenerative detector is not
coupled directly to the antenna and has very high-Q XTAL circuit inside,
dead spots and instability because of the antenna are eliminated. The
second valve 6SN7 (xUSSR 6N9S) is used as first and second audio amps.
TX :
For the first contacts very simply design has been used (same as AC-1
by legendary AMECO): it was 6V6 crystal-controlled cathode-keyed XMTR
with the nice puny modern 10.125 crystal (Rest In Peace, poor XTAL!-).
But several contacts has been fulfilled and the first one was
transatlantic QSO with W2QN. This QSO given me more satisfaction than
any hobby achievement in recent memory! (My RMS power was 3 watts,
but signal was too chirpy and has frequency drift, XUSE, Bert).
After the first crystal's death (fatal overheating), i had enjoyment
with several strange transmitters:
1. 6SL7 Push-Pull 3 W RMS (R.I.P. second pretty XTAL and 6SL7 :-)
2. 6SL7 VXO+AMP 0.8 W RMS (XTAL alive, tone 9, but too low power for CQ)
3. 6L6 Mod-Pierce 5 W RMS (oh, third XTAL, i'm crystal-killer :-)
...et.c.
It is assumed that the crystal have to be FT243 or same xUSSR series,
but i have no one for the 30 metres band, so..
So, for the time being i use pentode-based (5702 tube) XTAL oscillator
with the stabilized low plate/grid voltage, followed by a power tetrode
(6V6 or 6L6 tube) final amplifier, all cathode-keyed. Power is 3-8 W RMS,
depending on the exact AC network voltage (~260V at the deep night, but
only ~200V at the daytime and lower then ~160V every evening here).
DX : W2QN (3 times), JA1OCA, UA0WW, UK8FF, K1GDH, JA4FHE, EA8AHB
