Dear QRP and homebrew friends,
tomorrow at Ascension Day the 6th QRP-MINIMAL-ART-SESSION will
take place. There's still a little bit of time to complete simple projects.
Like e.g. the "Michigan Mighty Mite" featured in SPRAT #105, a basic single-
stage crystal controlled solid state tx.
The complete QRP-MAS rules and a list of suitable circuits have been
posted to the packet radio network ( Search by entering "C < DJ7ST" ).
A lot of invitations were sent by e-mail.
Doing it with (almost) nothing is an art. A simple tx producing a good
signal when connected to a dummy load, may show ugly reactions when
connected to unbalanced or mismatched antennas, resulting in chirps or worse.
When using a simple tx an additional antenna matching circuit, e.g.
a pi filter, is highly recommended, especially as it doesn't add to
the component tally. When not completely misdimensioned, the additional
losses will be negligible.
So please test your little tx connected to an antenna, with the
rx disconnected from antenna (in most cases by antenna switch).
And a tip how to "beat it to zero". Even a crystal controlled tx may
show considerable shift when tuned to zero beat without its final amplifier
in action. Better results are obtained by tuning the complete tx with full
power transmitted into a dummy load by using a second antenna switch.
(But don't forget to re-switch back to antenna when you want to be heard, hi)
Power levels around 1w will not overdrive the rx as long it's not connected
to an antenna.
The QRP-MAS, during which no serial numbers are exchanged, thus is no
"real contest", meaning we are free to use 3560-3580kHz, too.
Expect MAS signals between 3576 and 3579 from operators who knitted a simple
tx around a 3579kHz (the experimenters' frequency) low-cost crystal.
We shouldn't disappoint them.
So please don't forget to listen also to frequencies above 3560kHz,
especially 3575-3580kHz.
Hpe cu in the QRP-Minimal-Art-SESSION on the evening of Ascension Day.
This is a proposal for your log/summary-sheet:

A circuit diagram (or photocopy) with numbered components (meaning counted
from left to right, please) must be enclosed for a valid log (only TX for
Class B). The circuit diagram may be replaced by a detailed description
(VFO: 1 transistor + 10 components, buffer: 1 trans. + 8 components etc.) or
by a reference to the list of QRP-MAS rigs published PR-file <qrp>.
Beschreibung (VFO: 1 Transistor + 10 Bauteile, Puffer 1 Trans. + 8 Bauteile..)
ersetzt werden oder -bei Nachbau- durch Bezug auf eine der in der Rubrik <qrp>
veroeffentlichten QRP-MAS geeigneten Schaltungen.
