17th ORIGINAL-QRP-CONTEST: The Operators' Voice
-----------------------------------------------
Dear OQRP-Contest friends,
as a follow-up to the list of equipment used in the OQRPC here now
the participants' comments. Even though the ionosphere arches over all
QRPers alike, her turbulences are experienced individually:
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
1949 UTC: Someone turned out the lights on 80m. Only after a lapse of one
hour the signals returned reluctantly... (DK3UZ)
...next time maybe with a different (more NVIS-like) antenna (DF2OF)
Thanks for all the work put into making QRP a success...around 12 UTC
all bands were very quiet (G0KRT)
After saving the log (UCX) it was gone. Had to re-assemble calls and
exchange directly from the disk (DJ3GE)
My first contest using my new IC-703 (DL7UKT)
In QRP-Contest I again and again notice a high number of stations calling
off frequency. I'm not talking about 50Hz, it's more like 500Hz... (DK7VW)
It's always fun, even under poor conditions (DL4LAC)
...am glad about again having taken part in this interesting QRP contest..
after having reached 80 years (DL9HCW)
Strange conds on 20m: Worked 4X4, but heard not even a single G (DK8SX)
Sympathetic to find again so many good friends for wishing Happy New Year!
(F6ACD)
The dead zone and my GPA helped to work many multipliers, but sadly rather
few DLs. Running VLP into a longwire made working DLs difficult (DL1RPL)
...sadly no QSO on 20m. Heard many stations, but with an indoor antenna
it's more difficult... (HB9RE)
Only have 14m of wire on a balkony 9m long and up 90m. Cuagn in the
summer contest from my garden (DL7VPE)
Band conds weren't that good, weak signals but good activity (HB9DAX)
As expected conds on 20m were rather mediocre (DL0NZ)
Enjoyed time I could put to test. Condx on 20m very poor this year (G3LHJ)
Wasn't used to zero-beating and switching between MAS-TX and FT-817 (DK5RY)
...again a nice contest with good QRP/VLP activity...(PA0RBO)
Still suffering from the end-of-year party... (DJ3XK)
Extremely varying field strengths on 40m! I1BAY btwn S0 an S9+ (DJ3XK)
A dead zone of abt 400km radius combined with living in the centre of
DL makes life difficult...but perseverance payed off: After 5hrs I even
managed to work a DL! Very, very funny... (DL1HTX)
HW-9 improved by an extra if-stage plus 250Hz (YK88CN) xtal filter (DJ4VP)
Unfortunately not more QSOs. Is VLP out? (DL9QM)
Were 20m dead this time? Made only 2 QSOs (OK2BTT)
Bought the HW-7 primarily for such activities, and now was the time to
let it work. Am satisfied, especially with the 20m QSOs running such low
power (DJ7RS)
Thank you for this "leisurely" contest, in which also the less trained
with small stations can take part and have fun (DK2ZA)
Gratifying, the lively participation (DJ3LR)
Time was limited, but had to suffice for a few QSOs (DL3ECG)
The toughest OQRPC I ever took part in. No QSOs for hours (DJ5AA)
Antenna: 9m of Gutter + 5m down-pipe... Surprising how well one gets
heard in this contest, even when runnig VLP (DJ5KZ)
I had GREAT FUN with VLP (500mW) I was surprised that my crippled ant
still was working on 80m...(PA1B)
Unfortunately no-one answered my "CQ"s. Had relaxed "normal" CW-QSOs
in between... (DF4SD)
This time tried "Very Little Power". But with "Very Big Antennas".
Light and gear sun-powered (I1BAY)
The contest was an opportunity to establish gutter and down-pipe at
the new QTH as a possibly permanent solution... (DK6JK)
It is always a pleasure to participate. I am already looking forward to
the summer-contest! (OH7QR)
Sloping Fuchs antenna and cold feet in the garage aren't funny (DL9GWA)
What happened to 20m? At least short of 40 QSO. Now and then excellent
conds on 80 & 40m (DL0VLP/DF6MS)
Good old HW-9. But switched on 1 hour before start. Ufb conds (HB9DEO)
Poor conditions above 10 MHz throughout wintersports & O-QRP (PA9RZ)
A good new year with the big and the best QRP Contest (IK3TZB)
In the new year all things will be better. Slowly start contesting again.
Was fun again, after a long absence (DF3OL)
My loop broke! After 80 minutes into the contest. Very windy here..(M0AVN)
On 1st Jan. conds were severely impaired after 1800...altogether very high
participation and peaceful side by side (DL1AVD)
...the first time I took part. Currently only a single xtal controlled
QRP-TX in working order...very trying at times, but had fun just the same
(DK2CF)
/p QTH deep down in the valley...family took priority. But where there is
room for an antenna there is also time for a few QSO (DL7AQT/p)
Unfortunately poor conds on 20, therefore only a few EUs. And highly
variable conds on 80, yielding only a few DLs (DL2ABH)
Difficult conds, QRM up to S9. But being part of it counts (HB9JBO)
Conditions were good with long skip distance most of the time. But also
periodes with heavy QSB (OZ9KC)
Although the conditions could have been better it was as usual enjoyable
to participate (OZ9QM)
No good conds on 14 MHz. But 19 QSO gave 13 multis (OK1FVD)
QTH: Isle of Poel, IOTA EU098, DID O-02, WWLoc JO54RA,, near Gollwitz
Lighthouses, LH FED092/FED093...Was QRV from the car. Strung dipoles 3m
up between trees on the road's side (DF2HL/p)
...and then the K2's PA stage went dead (DH8JF)
Pure CW...refreshening as always...and as was needed on New Year's Day :-)
The hangover is to blame for QRI, QRH and QSD, hi (DJ1KAI)
Thanks to the adjudicators. VLP worked smoothly again - gratifying also
the high participation of non-DLs (DJ3KK)
Am QRV again! QRP is always fun again. The first time I made the final
log with help from the computer. To be on the safe side I also send one
by snail-mail (DL1ARG)
Transmitted into my dummy-load for 3 hours until I noticed. After that
things went better... (DL1IRM)
The weather made it an easy decision to stay in the shack a little longer.
So far my highest number of QSOs in a CW-contest. (DL2JGT)
Conds were worse than poor. (DL2RT)
Bad conds here, hope I can do better next time (DL2WRJ)
Despite strong QRM on 80m and relativly poor conds on the remaining two
bands it was fun again... (DL4AC)
Poor condx and low activity on 20m, enjoyed participation on 'just for
fun'-level (DL4FO)
A pleasure to be contesting again without strain. And the "big guns"
with their overly fast keys were absent... (DL3MBE)
Nice contest to benchmark your station. Sure will be there in next event
with my new homemade rig (EA5BXI)
Judging from other OM's high serial numbers it can't have been that bad.
Unfortunately I live in a highly populated area with lots of local QRM
(DL3AS)
Were conds on 20m really that bad, or was only activity lacking? (DL2HRF)
Again great fun with QRP contest. Keep going :-) (EA5EF)
Was fun again to meet many CW-friends (HB9RE)
In this contest you need big ears and not big gun, hi (I2AZ)
A very fun and interesting contest to work. Nice to meet so many fellow
QRPers around Europe! Condx was quite alright except for some heavy
Aurora-QRN during the evening of Jan 1st (LA2MOA/p)
...just jotted down a few QSO (OE6KYG)
just a few qso this time...enjoyed every minute... see you all next summer
event (ON6WJ)
Nice contest, fb for testing my new IC-703 (ON7CC)
Hvy QRM - Bad condx - Meet many contest friends - CU next time (PA0ATG)
Good conditions and activity on 3,5 and 7 MHz, but poor activity on 14MHz.
Nevertheless big fun and pleasant contest (PA0FEI)
Regrettably the XYL lost her nerve after only one hour. And I preventively
pulled in the fishing rod because of the gales and went QRT (PA/DF9DH)
Mainly fought technical problems of transceiver and key. Had to find out
that the xtal-filter is as wide as a barn door...only positive surprise was
the 41m endfed antenna (DL8SAI)
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
That radio amateurs enjoy doing amateur radio is always pleasing again,
although not totally unexpected. Especially being caught unawares, having to
improvise on the spot, stories of failures, accidents and success keep the
"soapbox" alive.
Looking ahead to more of it isn't only
with best 73/2 (es with mni tks for another translation to Eddi, DK3UZ)
"Hal", Hartmut, DJ7ST
