The minimalists' voice:
----------------------
The QRN wasn't too bad this time, but the contest activity from G somehow
confusing. Only a few OM were patient enough up to the end but then were
richly rewarded by a lot of late QSOs. For the first time participated with
"splitted mind", i.e. also using the club call DK0LA (DJ1ZB/DK0LA)
I was satisfied with the RX part of my "100MAS". I wasn't disturbed by the
G-contest (OK1DZD)
My tests with an audion (trf) haven't been too encouraging. Perhaps it
would help to include the tx-xtal into the rx-selectivity. QRN has been
not too strong this time, thus weak signals had their chance, too (DJ9IE)
All parts & valves over 40 years old (SP6LV)
Extreme QRN here in southern DL smashed some QSO... (DL8GN)
Reactivated my Hartley ..though there were problems with keeping the
frequency stable.....no doubt one could hear that... (DL2MFP)
Unfortunately a very high QRN level, so participation limited (DL1ARH)
Much fun in my first MAS, but 80m-QRN was tiring out... (DF2AP)
A first class "menu" after a beautiful Ascension Day : QRM/QRN, G-QRM and
nearly no space.... making QSOs under these circumstances - that's really
something...was getting better later around midnight (DL1JGA)
Tnx for monitoring also 3579 kHz to allow my QSO's (PA3AFF)
Working conds were good, only a little QRN around 2030 UTC (OZ9KC)
Without MAS I never would have built this kind of equipment- go on that
way! It may work without sidetone, but not really without VFO! (DL1HTX)
Finally...found the time for homebrewing something for MAS...an old
Philips receiver provided valves and power supply... (DJ5KZ)
QRM from G was tremendous, unfortunately...modified my pixie radio a little
bit ... found one af-stage sufficient with an 40m long antenna... (DL1SAN)
Taking part for the first time for only two hours. QRN, a G-contest and a
small tx-tuning range made it difficult... will try a two stage TX next time
(DL4FO)
High QRN level during the first two hours...(DK5RY)
The homebrew TX would have hold out till the end - not so the OP! Fighting
until giving up because of weak signals and QRN, QRN....(DL9QM)
Agn vy QRN...cuagn in QRP-MAS 2005 (OK1DLY)
Sorry, only short-time participation (DL3AKF)
Nice contest, have a lot of fun...congratulations with your website, it's
very easy now to find the rules (ON4ATZ)
QRN, QRM by G-Contest, tired from Ascension Day's walking...(DL2AWA)
Beeing forced into a very small freqency range I had to call cq very often.
But the few QSO have been fun nevertheless... MAS has been SUPER... (OE8GBK)

The manager's voice:
--------------------
Compared with previous years there is a downward QRN tendency though some
OM especially in southern DL and OK again had to suffer. It's for sure:
sooner or later we'll have a MAS absolutely free of QRN!
In northern aereas the G-QRM breaking out suddenly and violently was the much
bigger problem. A problem in future, too? Fortunately not! The QRM was caused
by the RSGB-Club-Championship which is a weekday activity (laudable in view
of decreasing activity on our amateur bands!) So the collision was more by
accident, not planned.
Those who struggled through or paused for a time were rewarded richly: there
were quite satisfying condx for milliwatting in the second half of MAS with
lots of QSO. The hours around midnight on 80m are THE minimalists' hours!!
In case of trouble a small PA in reserve could help over QRN and QRM by
making 4-5 watts out of your milliwatts. A suitable design has been published
in the June issue of CQ-DL. Willi, DK6SX presents a design with negative
feedback thus preventing instabilities and too much gain violating the QRP-
limit. (Minimalists will do it without the integrated rf-vox).
"Doyen" DJ1ZB and DL1ARH, too, acquired a taste for a "double-existence" on
the band: owning more than one rig meeting the MAS criteria and wishing to
use them both they did it by lending a club call for this event.
A pleasant change for all though reducing the chances for the individual
call. But winning is not really the main intention of MAS...
Hpe cuagn all minimalists next weekend (03/04-Jul) in the
16th O R I G I N A L - Q R P- C O N T E S T
