         13th OQRP-CONTEST (28/29-Dec-2002), Comments
         --------------------------------------------

Dear OQRPC-Friends,

here are the comments made by participants of the 13th OQRPC.
We received a gratifyingly large amount of feedback in the shape of
homebrew activities including antennas stimulated/accelerated by
the contest. The compared to the summer event favourable conds on
Sunday provoked further numerous remarks:

                          - - - - - - - -

Thank you for organizing the OQRPC, one of my highlights in the
amateur radio year. After employing an FT-817 in the December contest,
I regretfully returned to my "junk rigs". They slow me down somewhat,
but homemade is just more fun... (OE8GBK)

The "Sparrow" won its test of verification. It was quite a struggle to
complete it in time for the contest...but that was worth its while,
   the RX is superb (DL2FI/p)

I probably was the easternmost participant...that's why I entered
in class MP...thus I became "crocodile" for the first time (UT5UAK)

I'm not really a "contester", and when I'm only a "point" they shall
do some work to earn it, hi. Even in the friendly OQRP-Contest
(really more like a QSO party) (PA9RZ)

I always wanted to participate, but my previously used transceivers
did not comply with the basic rules. So this is the first time for me.
I have found a lot of fun with OQRP! (EA4RJ)

I frequently enter the CQ-WPX QRP class using a TS-120 with reduced power.
But a homemade, crystal controlled rig is a totally different
affair... I was delighted by the small tranceiver's (RockMite) performance
as well as the participants' behaviour and ham spirit (DL2KDW)

Just finished Norcal 20, first QSOs were made in OQRPC (PA3FGI)

Tks for contest...happy checking (G3VIP) Classy QRP! (DL8DZV)

Tnx fer ufb contest (SP5AGU) Fb event, this contest (DF1UQ)

Again many old acquaintances, but also new calls were heard (DL6AAF)

On 28/29 December DL2FI, DL1JGS and I entered the OQRPC using our "Sparrow"
QRP transceiver prototypes, the latter of which I designed... (DK1HE)

  Tests of a "Current-Sum Antenna" weren't that convincing (DL1JGA)

My first OQRPC after a two years' lapse. Moving...curtailed amateur radio
and QRP. One day prior to the 13th OQRPC I overcame the "inner indolence"
and at long last strung a wire. Lo and behold: It worked right away (DL1AAA)

VLP is an attractive operating mode, also in a contest...(DJ3KK)

After some months I've treated my fingers to a key again (DL3ECG)

Only a few contacts but enjoyed very much being with the QRP gang (EA3EZO)

Nice contest but sunday morning the PA valve said "good bye for ever"(OK2BTT)

...difficult conds, often very weak signals (DL1RNN)

...just for testing the rig in contest (I1XSG)

Only a few QSOs this time, the family took priority (DK1LG)

...unfortunately again family celebrations on Saturday (DL3AKF)

Please call CQ OQRP and not CQ TEST (OK2PZL)

It was a pleasure to work (agn) in contest using my old homebrew TX ...
the Bobtail Curtain antenna on 20m was fantastic (F6ACD)

Lots of fun again, good conds on 20m (DL6ABB)

This time I remembered to submit my log...(OK1FVD)

Sunday noon 1 QSO/minute, despite an SST-20 which put out less than 1w
with 10.5v of supply voltage: exceptionally good 20m-OQRPC-conds (DK0VLP)

On 40m there was a "one way skip" with many strong signals from the south,
but they did not hear me (OZ9KC)

On 20m better conds on Sunday than on Saturday (DK5RY)

With reports that good I really should try VLP (DL0NZ)

Sri, strong QRM/QRN on 80m. Met lots of old friends again (DJ3XG)

1726utc: A thunderclap, the HW-9 recoiled in fright. That was that,
   good bye OQRPC! (DJ4VP)

Condx on saturday moderate, on sunday good on 20 and 40m, lots of activity
   on 40m, especially DLs (PA0RBO)

Again a pleasure giving points and multipliers to my CW-friends (HB9RE)

FT-817 broken, so back to QRP+...HF propagation terrible here in London
area...failed after dark. Only 1/2 my normal number of QSOs (G0KRT)

...time permitting I'll again be giving out points in the 14th OQRPC.
This time I had to consider my only 6 months old daughter Julia (DL4ZBI).

Took part despite being ill, a case of honour (HB9JBO)

Poor conds on 28th in the evening (DL4LAC)

..all classic bands...without differentiating between handmade/PC-categories.
Results become clearer and the sportive incentive is raised (DL8MTG)

...special call sign ...celebrating ten years anniversary of the Convention
  for Childrens' Rights (4N9C)

I wonder if it is allowed to use the FT-817 as RX next to a handmade TX and
still be "handmade" (PA3FSC) (Yes, it is. "Handmade" concerns the TX only)

Hope propagation in July will be better!..(ON4KAR)

...propagation was not so good on 80 & 40m, so I spent not so much time as
  planned (DL4KUG)

14 Mhz vy good on 29th & pleased with result, my best ever (GM4BKV, age 80)

It was again fun to fish for weak VLP stations in the noise. Was
surprised by the very good conds on 20m (HB9HQX)

Was my TRX deaf or was there really no activity on Sunday? (DJ1KAI)

Like the Olympic Games, taking part is the important thing (DJ0GD)

QRK seemed way down. Many thanks for arranging it all (G8IB)

Even though there was only time for 20 QSOs:
QRP + CW >>> Amateur Radio simply is fun! (HB9BQB)

...operated from my second QTH at my cottage in the mountains (OK1DMP)

Had fun like always, though I could steal myself away for only a
few hours ... am looking forward to the next event (DL1AVD)

Could not start earlier than Sunday, nothing left on 80m...but many
nice European contacts on 20m (DL5ANS)

It was a nice contest...despite limited available time (DL1ARG)

Enjoyed VLP with FT-817..restricted myself to 10 QSOs on each band (OZ7MA)

This was the first time I had tried the FT-817 in a contest and it
performed well. The one item the rig does need though is a 500 Hz filter.
It was good to hear so many QRP stations enjoying themselves (GW0VSW)

...only a short stretch, but always a pleasure! (DL8NAV)

QRV Saturday evening, no QSOs due to QRN, QRM (F/DL4IW)

Newly erected antenna, only for the contest...(DJ5KZ)

Again it was delightful to meet the "QRP-Community" on the bands (DJ9KR)

It was nice contesting indoors when it was -30C outside! (OH7QR)

With only a few meters of wire on the balcony you need to be a little
crazy...in the summer it will be a 40m endfed in the garden (DL7VPE)

Homemade is always good for doing something useful. I took part with
pleasure, if only for an hour at a time...(DF3OL)

A few QSOs but lots of fun! My thanks to all participants (DL1SMA)

Were it only conds which made some stations' signals louder and louder
   towards the contest's end? (DL1HTX)

It went satisfactorily considering my simple equipment (DK8SX)

The Tramp-8 is only half-finished, therefore Norcal-40. Working DL
   on the GP wasn't easy...(DL1KSW)

...the first time I got EA as a multiplier! (EA1KC)

Not so many participants but I met my contest friends. Hvy QRN from static
rain. But still nice to do, and score is not important (PA0ATG)

This time I managed to keep this appointment. In previous years the
xyl made plans for me...but I kept a quiet pace (DJ7JE)

Intended to fix two faults in the TRX just before the contest...it fell
from the table, dragging matchbox and SWR meter after it. The movement
went its own way, a crystal jumped out of its socket....(DL8UAW)

...the many visitors made me exceed the 9 hours break (DJ2GL)

Time was limited, but...made 25 QSOs in the end (DL3MCI)

...nice to meet many QRP-friends! (DK9EA)

...severely suffered from rain showers (strong noise in dc-rx) (DL9CE)

Unfortunately personal circumstances didn't permit the good conds'
full exploitation. Again a contest which leaves a favourable impression
   in all respects (DJ3LR)

...my own conds weren't good either (DL9QM)

...let the FT-817 glow on the weekend...went quite well, a super supply
    of stations (DA0MF)

Sri, but due to an important visitor staying for the weekend I had to
steal myself away for every single QSO, hi (DK2SH)

Good fun as usual, better condx this time! (M0AVN)

   Excellent QSO with LY2FE: power 10mW! (SP6LV)

Much worse result than last year, should use also 80&40m next time (OK1DXK)

   Very nice contest (ON5JD)

On Saturday poor conds on all three bands. Things improved again on
   Sunday (DK3UZ)

Despite only 6 QSOs I had fun again. Running 1.5w into an indoor antenna
   I didn't expect more (DL2BXC)

...was fun to bridge greater distances with 2w (DL5JAN)

...a few more stns next time? My very first try with my new built rig (OK2HWP)

..R7 vertical, which seems to do well in daytime, but poorly during the
night...Good fun and nice to be able to make so many QRP friends (OZ7BQ)

Many thanks for all your hard work (G4HSO)

Low activity and bad conditions on Saturday. On Sunday big fun especially
   on 14 MHz! (PA0FEI)

Thanks for support of QRP activities (OK2FB)

                              - - - - - - - -

bcnu in the QRP MINIMAL-ART SESSION on Ascension Day!

(translation by DK3UZ, mni tks Eddi!)
