Hello to QRPers Regarding bulletin from Ian, G3YRQ
Check the manuals for diode balanced mixers. More particularly,
see the ARRL handbook -- re: Doubly Balanced Diode-Ring Mixers.
There was also a heap of material about some `high performance'
commercial modules available (1987 ARRL) which are still about.
Home brew versions of these at HF will be okay. The commercials
typically cover from 0 to 500 MHz. You'd need a couple of tiny
trifilar wound ferrite toroid xfmrs and 4 small-signal diodes,
preferreble hp hot carrier types - all for a few cents each.
High oscillator injection is needed, compared to mixers with a
lot of conversion gain. Very low-noise bipolars are recommended
around them too. Circuit to follow.
73 - John.
