Dear OQRP-Contesters,
in the wake of the Employed Equipment Score Table posted recently here now
a sequel in the shape of the participants' soap box.
Comments echo extraordinaryly good short skip propagation on 20m.
Or has the equally extraordinaryly good participation again brought these
condx into the open like it did last year?
-----------------------------
Very good propagation with short skip on 20m were a welcome contribution
to the 11th OQRPC. The number of participating stations really was superb.
Impossible to ignore was the trend towards 'professionalism', some stations
(mostly computer controlled) occupied complete subband sections with CQs.
A few years ago occasional changes of frequency and listening were not
unheard of... (DL8MTG)
This contest's popularity is increasing continuously, especially on 14MHz
there were many 'new' stations.
Again vivid participation, good condx, increasing QSO rates - thanks for
this interesting QRP contest (DL9HCW).
Having moved two years ago now QRV at last! Settled down so far, that the
neighbours simply have to accept an antenna, hi.
So this was the first contest I participated in from home (DL3OCG).
Despite my not chasing 1st place, it is always fun again (DL7GW).
Used a mono- instead of a multiband dipole this time, got along better thus.
(DL4LCA)
...unfortunately not enough time (DL9GWA).
Antenna: matched gutter & drainpipe! (abt 7m horizontal + 5m vertical).
Home made DJ1ZB Mini QRP AMU (DJ0MY).
Short kkip or bad condx? Strong signals from EA on 20m but very weak signals
from stations in test (EA5CEC).
My 2nd OQRP-Contest, this time QRV on all bands using a K2. I'm looking ahead
to the next contest (DL1SMA)
Very impressed by some stations' very high QSO rates (DL7VPE).
...a NorCal 40A assembled some weeks ago, firmly set to 1w after I 'shot'
the first PA transistor (DL1KSW).
At last again a contest without uniform 599 reports... regrettably no
80m antenna here (DL3MBE).
Though I'd qualify for VLP on 20m, I entered the QRP class on all bands
(DL6CGC).
Friendly, almost intimate atmosphere. The K2 stood up to his baptism of
fire (still not sure after all, whether the R4C is just a tad better than
the K2-RX or not) (DK6NC).
Breaks: almost exclusively only because I had to shovel snow (DL1LAW).
Even in a contest QRP is fun, hi (DL7UWE).
Very beautiful contest with my new FT-817 (OK1IF).
Great conds... ! On 40m it looked like CQ-WW-contest, hi (OK2PZL).
Was after more comfort using VLP, therfore adjusted ASE's PA and
driver again all over, successfully ... of course, it's also been
fun again, as always (DF1GN).
For a few years I was QRT on QRP. Now I sold my FT-1000MP and come back to
my home made rigs, hi (SP5AGU).
Frequently needed to shovel snow, otherwise there'd have been more
QSOs (DL6AWJ).
...participation very good, did not run out of calls not yet worked,
until the end (DL8DZV).
Crowded as always on 40m. On 20m enough room and stations. (ON/DL1RPL).
...made some qso's because I got the opportunity to test antennas and new
qrp set...had much pleasure during this contest (PA3AUK).
No DX, but many friends, and through them again lots of pleasure (DJ0GD).
Always a new pleasure, without hectics (DL5SCI).
Even though insufficient for top rank ... took part and had fun. What more
could I ask for? (DJ1KAI)
More and more participants use the standard "trrrrt dahdit dahdit" report.
Alas! Please, don't turn the OQRPC into just another 599-disease!!! (PA9RZ).
So far I had little success with my GPA50. Until the OQRP-Contest .....
(DF3YJ).
Very good propagation on 40m, heard JA0BCO around 2030 ... alas, he didn't
hear me. Just the same, a great contest! (DL3VNL).
Good short skip condx on 14Mhz. This time my goal was getting to know the
HW-9. Made adjustments on the way - until the QSO with DJ6ZC evolved
into a rag chew (DJ1ZB).
As always it was a pleasure to work across borders using QRP (DL4LAC).
Reading the contest rules I thought: "I need to heap work onto this man."
(DJ3GE).
VLP stands no chance against the superfluous MP class (DL1HTX).
... good supply of stations, propagation also played by the rules (DL2HWX).
Lots of fun, sometimes dense crowds. We should spread further apart from
the QRP frequencies (DJ9EG).
Fine participation, good short skip conditions...many VLP stn with
strong signals (I1BAY).
A very nice contest all the time. Sorry I haven't the time to complete it.
Good participation conditions (IK1FVO).
Old gear and operator. Hard going - but good fun! (G8IB).
Participated only sporadically (HB9AYZ).
Enjoyed getting numerous calls, especially from 1w stations from all over
Europe. Keeps one's ears sharp, hi. (DK3KD).
Despite being no contest fan I took part for a short stretch to support
the outstanding initiative (PA3AQV).
Best 73 to you and the correctors' team es cuagn in May (OQ7CC).
I'm already looking forward to the next QRP-MAS (9th May 2002) (DK2ZA).
I'm addicted to the O-QRP-Contest - always a lot of fun.
...again thanks for holding and adjudicating the contest (DF2SJ).
I like the Original QRP Contest very much...(OK1KI).
Due to prepairing my holidays I was unable to take part for the whole
duration. Participation was also meant as training for the HNYC...(DF9DH).
At least I managed to spend all of Saturday on the air (DK9OY).
Hope to have helped with a few points (OK2BTT).
Took part first time with the FT-817, but without Collins filter one stands
hardly a chance in pile-ups (DK1LG).
Very good conds on 40 and 20m (OK1FVD).
Was a pleasure again...prefered 20m what with conds there being best.
At times my antennas' wires wore ice coatings 5cm in diameter (DL9QM).
I think the regulations of this contest are good (SP3BOL).
Nice increase in number of participants...conds also quite good.
Unfortunately my LW-ant is hung up very low for 80&40m, but for
20m it worked well enough (OH7QR).
...unfortunately 80m weren't that good (DL3AKF).
This was my first ORIGINAL QRP Contest. I was able to work weak stations in
contrast to contests like WAE and CQ-WW (PA0FEI).
Snow on the roof shielded my indoor antenna, heard almost nothing on 80
and 20m. Some QRP signals rather sound like "KW" (DL4GN).
Emerged again after long absence. Didn't do the full turn as I was on call
that weekend (DF1QF).
Despite gale-suffering antenna - it's been great again! (DK7BK).
Again an fb contest. Many DLs with good signals on 20m, (DL5ANS).
Tnx nice contest! (SM5DQ). Very good signals, always a joy (SM6FPC).
After 10 qso on each band with QRP I switched to VLP... (OZ7MA).
...again giant fun (DL9ZBN). Tnx fer fb ORIGINAL QRP Contest (HA5ARR).
Participation was plenty and, formost, orderly (DK9EA).
The FT-817 stood up well in its 1st contest, 20+40 went smoothly (HB9RE).
Not many QSOs in only 2 hours, but more fun (DL1AVH).
About "double vision" a lot has been written. But "double hearing"
can be impressively experienced using a direct conversion mixer (DK8SX).
Again a great event. QRPCC's efforts bear fruit. Skipped numbers 064-
069, must have had a total black-out then. But also proof of not having
used a computer, hi (DK5RY)
Just a page-full of QSOs this time. As always the weekend after Christmas is
not good for time in the shack (G3DNF).
Used VLP this time and thoroughly tested my box. Only incident: The
accumulator ran flat...2 hrs of quick charge...onwards...(DL3MCI).
A truly pleasant contest without strain (DL4JLM).
The contacts during this contest were the first made with my christmas gift
for myself, a RACAL PRM-4021 (F5JDG).
Met many QRP-acquaintances as the year ran out (DJ3XG).
Took part in a QRP contest for the first time, after I quit my DX- and
QRO activities a year ago (LA0CX ex DJ9NX).
Very good condx, never before worked so many DLs on 20m (DL0VW/DL1RNN).
Finished the run with I1BAY, our first QSO was on 8th May 1955...
All 3 antennas were ice-clad (DJ2GL).
My first but certainly not last attempt in this contest (SM5ACQ).
40 QSOs despite the racket from children and grand-children - not
bad, eh? (DM5AA).
This time not with home made rig but mint-new FT-817. Can't remember 14Mhz
ever went so well (OE8GBK).
Good propagation and very good participation. Long time since I heard and
worked so many loud DL stations on 20m (DL1JGA).
In addition to low power the small frequency range or fixed frequency
served as an extra handicap. The bigger my surprise at the final result
(DL1AZK).
A really good contest. Unfortunately didn't finish my SW20 in time,
but surely will be ready for the next contest (DL4HG)
I am very pleased to have done these QSO (F5ZV).
In the morning, instead of 80m, I had to deal with 20cm - of fresh snow!
(DJ5AA).
About QZV (zero beat please) many still haven't heard. Must be a real problem
(DK3UZ).
The "O-QRP" contest was very nice in this year, too (HA8LNT).
Exceptional propagation on 20m, wish there would have been more time (DJ9IE).
Amazing what you can do on 80m with just 0.3w and a heavily shortened
aerial (DL8LRZ).
Propagation wasn't bad, so I could improve my 2-way-QRP country count
using an FT-817 connected to a loop on the balcony (DL7UAW).
Sorry, could be QRV only Sunday morning but enjoyed good activity (7S5Q).
I tried a new antenna on 40...did it work? Yes! Never worked so many stations
on 40m so easily. Got calls from all over Europe! (PA0RDT).
Tks to everybody (90%) who took a few seconds to send "HNY", "Happy 2002" etc.
This makes the OQRPC a pleasure. Cu in July (EA1KC).
According to some stations' QSO figures participation was record breaking,
so the contest can be pronounced complete success (DL6AAF).
QSO with W8DL, my pwr 10 W out! (HA8DL).
Regret not to qualify due to the lack of an original QRP rig here.
Maybe I'll make it some time (DL1HAA).
Conditions during the contest were fair. Now I am looking forward to the
QRP-MINIMAL-ART-SESSION in May, already made improvements of my TX (OZ9KC).
Again a pleasingly high number of stations participated in the VLP class.
Cuagn in the next contest (DJ3KK).
A picture-book case of a contest, which, after a long interleave, I could
take part in again. Are there cases of "QRP doping"? (DJ3LR).
When the contest started at 1500Z I was in a cafe with a beautiful girl...
so the contest started at 1830, when 20m was closed (LZ3YY).
Many thanks for organization and adjudication (DL5JAN).
Nice job, such an FT-817 with 500Hz CW filter (DM3FZN).
I am interested in solar geomagnetic activity and propagation. The contest
was a great experience concerning behavior of ionosphere...critical F2 layer
was over 14 MHz. So short distance QSO were possible. At 16 UTC there also
was strong sporadic E to be seen on the ionograms from Juliusruh in DL.
So LA0CX was really very strong...he made sporadic E!! (OK1MGW).
A pity my CQ calls off the so-called QRP frequencies were not heard.
Has been fun just the same. CW IS FUN! (HB9DEO).
I have had QRP-pleasure on 3 bands now! A nice contest! (PA3ALM).
First hour marvellous on 20m. Later on 80 vy noisy. But all fb (GM4BKV).
Tks fer another good contest... All bands open, best one 20m (G0KRT).
Nice to hear so many QRP stations. Good conditions (G3VIP).
Every year I'm enthusiastic again about this contest (DL3LQM).
This was my jubilee 10th ORIGINAL-QRP-Contest and my 2.364th entry (YU7SF).
Tested my new rig GM47, think the RX is fb for contesting (OK1DZD).
Just a few hours before the contest I received the CW-filter for my new
FT-817 by mail. WOW! (PA3FSC).
Could not work full time ... just back home after hospitalization...(F6ACD).
4N9T is a special call for Teachers Association (130 years) (YU1JU).
Lots of activity on the bands, the radio worked beautifully. Only the OP
still needs to work upon himself, hi. Climax: One of my CQs on 20m was
answered by a VE3 also running QRP! (DF1DX).
A special pleasure to meet all those again, who took part from the
beginning - a family! (HB9JBO).
Homemade TX 1w from 6V/9Ah, pure solar energy, stored... (DL7VTX).
Nice to meet old acquaintances again. Fine conditions on 20m in the daytime,
good conds on 40m during the early evening hours (OZ3AAA).
It again became obvious that the ambiguous reception from a direct conversion
mixer on a crowded 40m band...leaves one with hardly a chance for success.
I noticed many OM had difficulties with the RIT control...(DL6DSA).
Unusual conditions on 20m - good opportunity to make QSO with a lot of QRP
friends in Central Europe (OK1DXK).
Good activity on 20m, good condx with DL. In the morning fb activity on 40.
All around a fine contest. The FT-817 ... with CW filter a treat (HB9DAX).
Forgot many things, being 80 - but not morse code... (DL8UAW)
---------------------------
Despite other commitments, restrictions antenna-wise, or limited to one
band, many participants took a stab for at least an hour or two, and so
served our common cause.
To them our heartfelt thanks! (So to Eddi, DK3UZ, for translation DL into G!)
Cuagn in the QRP-MINIMAL ART-SESSION (qrp-mas) on 9th May (Ascension Day).
