Hi Frank and members of the Liars Club,
I believe FALSE for several reasons, the first and most obvious is a
salamander is semi-aqatic and unlike a lizard can't survive in an arid
region.
Salamanders are not birds, they don't injest sand or pebbles to grind
food in a crop they don't have.
If a salamander or any other animal should ingest small particles of
anything that can't be digested they pass through unaffected. This is
especially true of gold since it's untouched by hydrochloric acid found
in digestive enzymes.
For this reason gold particles cannot build up in the digestive system,
if they did they would cause a blockage and kill the animal.
The story is just a bit of desert lore cooked up by a brain having been
in the hot sun too long. (;->)
BTW, salamanders are amphibians, not reptiles. OH! I get it, you're being
deliberately misleading. (;->)
