The answer given seems to be North-American biased. Cricket falls into
the same category, if I'm not mistaken.

Firstly, in cricket the batting side never has possession of the ball.
Secondly, if the batsman ignores the ball completely when it is bowled
towards him, it is still possible for him and his partner to score one
or more runs if the wicket-keeper mishandles the ball or fails to stop
its progress.
