Hi there,
I have compared both Digipan last version with two different
SoundBlaster compatible and original one, with the PtcII demodulating
psk31 (NcWinPtc terminal controller program).
I have done it in many different conditions with the same AF signal
feeding both inputs, and comparing the resulting strings on the screen
of both computers.
On a notebook Packard Bell (NEC) EasyNote VX the erros were
more han on a PC with original SoundBlaster, but not so much.
On the SCS- PtcII the demodulation of very weak signal, with both high
QRN and also QRM was very much better.
On the other hand, with SCS-PtcII controller you do not have spectra
display, nor may you monitor more channels at a time, but the tuning is
also very easy with the led display, and afc is working very well, and
you may always read on the alphanumeric display the current audio freq.
I find it very useful to have digipan working on a window near the
controller terminal program, it helps a lot monitoring psk31 or even
pactor signals or what else happens on the frequency.
Using a separate receiver you are able to monitor your emission too,
very useful on both pactor lev 2 and 3 and Psk31 to ensure you are well
into linearity region of your rigs.
I suggest this system to all controllers users, whatever the hardware
is, PtcII or KAM or PK232 or so. Most of us uses for terminal
controller programs PCs that are equipped with SB and so it is very
easy and useful to have this set up. There is also plenty of spectra
display programs, you may find what youn like the most.
Every comment or info on the matter is welcome.
