DigiPan

A new freeware program for PSK31, DigiPan stands for "Digital Panoramic
Tuning" and brings the ease and simplicity of PANORAMIC reception and
transmission to PSK31 operation. DigiPan provides a panoramic display of
the frequency spectrum in the form of an active dial scale extending the
full width of the computer screen. Depending upon the transceiver IF
bandwidth, it is possible to "see" as many as 40 to 80 PSK31 stations at
one time. In the first half of this year, Small Wonder Labs will introduce
an inexpensive 20 meter PSK31 transceiver kit that makes full use of
DigiPan's panoramic capabilities through the use of a 4000 Hz wideband IF.

When used with existing transceivers, DigiPan displays 2000 Hz to 3000 Hz
of spectrum space, displaying all, or almost all, of the active PSK31
stations on the band at one time, and clearly showing unused frequencies
available for calling CQ. Tuning to a station, or to an empty frequency,
is done by simply pointing with the mouse cursor and clicking the left
mouse button. DigiPan also has a "Snap" function to snap the cursor
quickly to the center of the displayed station, and AFC to keep it tuned
there. Because of the panoramic capabilities of DigiPan, it is no longer
necessary to use the transceiver tuning control! Just set the transceiver
to either the low or high end of the PSK31 portion of the band and use the
mouse for station selection. For memory-equipped transceivers, only one or
two memory frequencies are generally needed to cover the PSK31 portion of
any band, and changing band segments can then be done instantly with the
press of a switch. An electronic dial scale shows either the actual
frequency of reception or the tone frequency being used. 
DigiPan has a typeahead buffer and twenty-four operator-configurable macro
keys with a simple-English macro language that can be used to control
almost all the operational functions of DigiPan and eliminate repetitive
typing, leaving the operator more free to enjoy the QSO. DigiPan also has
a built-in logging feature that logs the call, name, QTH, time, date,
frequency, RST's, and remarks, and an automatic seach and display function
that continously displays the call, name, and QTH of any station
previously logged for easy reference during a QSO. 
DigiPan is the result of a joint effort between myself and Nick Fedoseev,
UT2UZ, the author of MIXW32, who wrote the actual program, and is intended
to make PSK31 operation easier and more enjoyable for everyone.
