With Digipan, I guess it's the best you can do, as
it doesn't have a tune function. The problem I have
with it is that you are not setting the peak power
while it is in SSB, which you do in PSK31SBW
with the tune function. Try this. Down load PSK31SBW
from the site http://aintel.bi.ehu.es/psk31.html and
run it. Notice it has a "tune" button in the lower
right hand corner.
a) set it for cw
b) tune it up
c) set it for usb
d) turn on PSK31SBW and set HT-44 Mic gain so the output
meter reads about 90% of what it did in step (b). Turn off
PSK31SBW.
e) turn on DigiPan (Tx Idle) and set HT-44 Mic gain so the output
meter reads about 50% of what it did in step (d)
With a little practice, you can eliminate step d).
Also, watch your plate dissipation, as the your
final amplifier is less efficient with the two tone
signal than with the single tone signal that you
are getting in tune. If your finals run too hot,
cut back on power in step d)
