See Oct QST page 85 for details. The Fox River Radio League of Aurora, IL
will have stations on the air this coming weekend celebrating our 75th
anniversary. Special certificates will be awarded for contacts.
I will be on PSK and RTTY between 2 and 4pm CDT Saturday, on 20 meters
(That's 1900-2100Z) as W9CEQ. Which mode I am on will depend on the
activity but I will probably favor PSK. Hope to work you-all then.

Subject: [psk31] Filtered FM PSK31 for ClassC XMTR
Hi,
I would like to get an opinion of technical PSK31 users
regarding a way of sending PSK31 from a small QRP rig.
My motivation is I have wanted to make a mod to a small
portable transciever that would allow me to use a palmtop
to work the most efficient digital mode. When I saw the PSK31
articles in QST and QEX, the narrow bandwidth seemed like the
mode for a QRP signal.
Since most of these rigs are class C and the audio modulation
or filtering were not possible, I was thinking of filting the
PSK modulation waveform to keep the sidebands down. So when
you want to change phase, you could send a small rounded pulse to
a varactor diode that would temporarily change frequency in an
amount calibrated to give roughly +-90 or 180 deg phase shift.
I made a first pass of this in Matlab, where the spectrum of
normal PSK31 is in green, raw phase change PSK in blue and that
from using a filtered FM pulse PSK in yellow, if you would like

I used a sine^2 shaped FM pulse, about half the symbol period long.
Because the tuning requirements are so tight, I was thinking of
putting AFC or counter stabilization to the Rcvr. However, what
seemed more practical for a prototype is the digitally synth CW
transciever from Small Wonder Labs. The DDS makes the varactor
calibration and stability part easy. Hopefully, I can upgrade the
PIC uC chip controller to get an ADC and just enough processor
power to do some crude DSP detection and perhaps leave the varicode
mapping and tuning indicators upto the palmtop.
I hope this message triggers thought on low end ways of doing
this neat new mode. I would greatly appreciate any practical
thoughts about what would be needed in a minimal camping xcvr
as well as detailed technical discussion of the merits of trying
to bandwidth limit the transmission by filtering the PSK frequency.
If that get's too mathematical to be of general interest, please
respond to me by email.

Subject: [psk31] Logger ??
I am wondering if someone can tell me, if it is possible to take
the Call Sign from the Recieve window and copy it into the Tx
window. I have tried cut and paste but haven't got it to work
yet. It would be easier yet to answer the CQ's if you can just
click on the calling call sign and then bring it up in your tx
window and hit you a macro key to answer the CQ.

Hi everyone,
I have new antennas up for 160 and 80, and I would really like to try them
out on PSK. But I can't seem to find any PSK signals - when I've been on. I
have called CQ a few times on about 1838khz and 3580khz between 0200 and
0230z. Is anybody out there?
With the longer nights coming, lets try the lower bands.
