Hello dear friend,
and thanks for reading this. For a longer time I see a problem in the
shortwave-digital community and I think it is time to think and
talk about it.
I mean the PSK31 traffic on the lower part of digital range on the shortwave
band, especially 20m. These parts are mostly used by PACTOR mailboxes and
gateways for a long time and also have lot of individuell QSOs there.
Still have some AMTOR stations there.
The center part is used by RTTY stations and Packet is used on the top of
digital range. So every mode has his place to stay and do not disturb
each other.
In the lower part of the TOR stations we have a gentlemen agreement to use
500Hz steps in the full and half mark frequency not to disturb each other.
This worked very fine, but now we have new users in this lower range, the
PSK31-friends, mostly using the space in these mark channels and disturb
traffic there.
Of course, PSK31 is a very nice and innovative new mode and I think it will
force out old RTTY more and more. But is it necessary to operate this mode
in TOR segment although the RTTY is mostly quiet and free ?????
We can count PSK31 as a RTTY mode, there is no error correction like ARQ.
So I think it is much better to use the RTTY range for PSK31. So everyone
will be happy and can enjoy his QSOs with no QRM.
Please do not operate PSK31 in TOR segment, you do QRM to the worldwide
store and forward traffic. Also your mail is forwarded from EU to the world
or back by Pactor. You also do not talk on your local packet radio
digipeater's QRG in FM-phone.
Please do not operate PSK31 in TOR segment, everyone like to QSO with no QRM
and have a lot of fun. You too !!!
Please use the RTTY segment for PSK31 and you'll never be disturbed by
automatic working PACTOR stations.
Please use the RTTY segment for PSK31 to enjoy your hobby the same way the
PACTOR people like to do. Do not forget, it is only a hobby for enjoying our
rare free time. We all like to have fun, not trouble for QRMing each other.
These are my thoughts about a good co-existance and co-operation.
