Dear Earnest,
Do me a favor and don't use that MIME or HTML junk on the list - it gives my
mail program problems - Hi!
The TS-450 does have an accessory connector on the back (ACC2) with pin 11,
called PKD.
The pre-assembled interface card:
One PSK Interface Kit is $17.95 total right now ( Sale price including
shipping ). This 'Dayton Special Introductory' pricing reverts to $24.95 on May
17, 1999. Thanks for your interest. You can order from:
Lectrokit
P.O. Box 1856

However, I cannot recommend it because it does not include a 1:1 isolation
transformer.

Dear all
My opinion is clear after see the mix32 software -> do not waste your
time.
If this soft is an advertishmen or some commertial businnes I dislike
it, why must we to pay 50 bucks for a promise?. Do you imagine to pay
money for a promise of a super radio? or you buy a REAL radio... I do
not
understood why software must to be different to hardware in this
aspect, and why we must to do the system test (or quality test) for
free, to one that will ask for money when the product will be finished.
Using the common sense to compare software A and B , and all in fact:
Funtionality A /cost A > = < Funtionality B / cost B
It is clear, and obvious, that it is possible start in PSK using very
good HAM software whit the best score in the cost equation.

Dear Francis,
I think you miss the point.
Neither MIME nor HTML are welcome on list servers or on newsgroups, so far as I
know. Perhaps you ought to read the guidelines for courtesy on such groups.
This is an exact quote from Eduardo's guidelines for this list server in
particular:
<< - You are also kindly invited not to use 'rich-text', HTML-ized text etc.
for writing messages. Those messages are almost ilegible when received on
ascii terminal.>>
The rule of thumb for list servers and newsgroups is to use the lowest common
denominator.
In my case in particular, with messages that are not in plain ASCII text, I
don't know of any way to get my responses to include the original message with
the ">" symbol in front of each line in order to delineate the quoted text.
Therefore, it actually imposes an unnecessary burden on a responder to use "rich
text"

Dear Valentin,
Valentin. I'm sure that everyone is sorry to hear that you are not happy with
the MixW32 software.
I'm also equally sure that many users will find the Demo version to have certain
advantages - whether they pay for registration or not, specifically, the type
ahead buffer, the RTTY capability, and the new mode, FSK31. Personally, I would
like to try the new mode with someone, but the opportunity hasn't arisen yet.

Hi Robert. The program may someday be worthwhile, but to me that day
seems a long way off. I am not going to change my screen resolution
just for 1 program. The standard for programs for years has been for
the program to match the current settings on the users computer.
I have my desktop set to 800x600 resolution, and the program's window
still is larger than my desktop. I did not try to use the program. It
may eventually be a very useful program, but it needs a lot more work.

Subject: [psk31] FSK31
From Peter Martinez G3PLX.
Could anyone with UT2UZ's program (or even UT2UZ if he reads this)
tell me ANYTHING about FSK31? I can only guess that it's an FSK
version of BPSK, in which a 180-degree phase shift is replaced by a
frequency shift of some magnitude.
PA0OCD reported that FSK31 worked better than PSK31 on a VHF path,
and that would be expected if the path had a lot of doppler spread
and the FSK shift was (at least) bigger than the doppler shift. One
could either say that this would make FSK31 much wider bandwidth or
say that it would take up two separated bands of energy, each of
which were as wide as a PSK31 emission.
Someone suggested it might be MSK. That would be the more-or-less the
same bandwidth as PSK31, and suffer the same doppler degradation, so
is probably not what FSK31 is. FSK31 would presumably not need a
linear transmitter (no overdrive problems), but would need some
special trick to recover symbol timing when idling (PSK31 does it
from the envelope amplitude modulation).
I am delighted that UT2UZ has had a go at "doing his own thing" on
PSK31. It has worried me that the PSK31SBW program has so far been
the only implementation of the PSK31 mode, and there seemed a danger
that my hastily put-together user interface was in danger of becoming
the de-facto interface.
However, the UT2UZ program is not the first of the second-generation
PSK31 programs. Has anyone reading this reflector tried either of the
other two that I believe are around, namely WriteLog and Logger? I
haven't seen either of them myself, but they are apparently
contest-style programs which have RTTY capability, to which PSK31 has
now been added. Since they are basically contest-style programs, I
imagine that they would have to be quite slick in operation. Are
they? Maybe there are others.
WriteLog and Logger are not free programs but PSK31 has been added at
no extra cost, which is the best way I can think of for existing RTTY
packages to meet my rule about only handing out my source code to
program developers if the result is free PSK31. I have to assume that
UT2UZ has NOT used my source code since his program is apparently not
free.
We need a lot more people to put their creativity into writing PSK31
programs, preferably for free but not neccesarily so. If no single
implementation is dominant we will the best environment for the mode
to develope it's full potential. The basic modulation and coding
principles of PSK31 are sufficiently well accepted now that we
shouldn't get a rash of "improved" modulation methods or coding
systems which are incompatible with the existing format.

No, the IC-706 VOX will not respond to audio on the AFSK input. To trigger
the VOX the audio must be applied at the microphone jack.

I would appreciate it if everyone who is either using or attempting to use
MixW32, would please check the settings of the video system.
This is accomplished by a RIGHT click on a vacant area of the desktop. Select
PROPERTIES, and then the SETTINGS tab.
Look at both the resolution and the color palette information. In my experience
you must have 16 bit (High) color palette, which is 64000 colors, and you must
have 800 x 600 resolution in order to meet the program's requirements.
Has anyone found any other configuration that works?

I just bought a FT 840 for use on PSK. So far I have it
set up for receive, am working on transmitting.
For receive, it seems to work well so far. I have the
receive audio from the AF jack on the back feeding a 47K
mini-pot set about halfway. The output from the mini-pot
is fed to a Radio Shack isolation transformer. The
output of the tranformer feeds about 20 ft of shielded
cable to the sound card input. I adjust the sound card
input using the Win95 mixer.
Some things I've found. I get better copy using the fast
AGC (I know some of you already know this, but I'm
slow <grin>). Also, I haven't been able to get PSK signals
to show up as clean as I would like on the waterfall using
this configuration, so I do the initial tuning using
Spectrograph, then use the waterfall for the final tuning.
I have the connectors all wired for transmitting, but
haven't tried it out yet. When I finally get it going, I'll
let you know how it goes.

Subject: Re: [psk31] PSK & the FT 840
elieve me Joe, the AGC should be left on SLOW, and (this part is just my
opinion) the waterfall makes a better tuning indicator than does the phase
scope. I find that I never look at the phase scope except to check for presence
of QPSK when I can't get a print.
I tune my rig to get the TT symbol over the signal. Then I tune the <- -> arrows
to get the signal track centered exactly ( my rig tunes in 10Hz steps). I never
look at the phase scope, because the AFC is pulling the signal into lock before
I could figure out from the phase scope which way to tune.
Happy Warbling, and may the Phase be with you,
