Notes of interest:
3D2- CONWAY REEF (UPDATE/DELAY). Hrane/YT1AD and Raymundo/YS1RR report
that the Conway Reef DXpedition with 8 operators, 5 Yugoslavians,
2 Macedonian and 1 Salvadorean (YT1AD, YU7AV, YU1NR, YZ7AA, YU1DX,
Z32ZM, Z32AU and YS1RR), will be delayed for 3 days. The delay is
because YS1RR's visa for Fiji is still in process in the Fiji
Embassy in Washington DC. Their departure now will be on February
17th, arriving Fiji on February 19th, and they will leave for
Conway Reef on February 20th. They will arrive on the island
February 21st later in the afternoon and hope to start operation
on February 22nd at 0800z. On Conway Reef there will be 3 stations
with 1KW each, using two 3 elements beam antennas for 10, 15, 20
meters, and 12, 17 meters. Vertical antennas will be used for the
low bands, all running simultanously. The modes will be SSB, CW,
RTTY, PSK31, SSTV, and the operation will last until March 1st,
when they will head back to Fiji on March 2nd. They will operate
from March 2-8th from there with the callsigns 3D2AD, 3D2AU, 3D2NR,
3D2RR, 3D2ZM, 3D2AV,3D2AB and 3D2FW. For more details, check the
following Web page: http://www.kragujevac.co.yu/3d2
5U - NIGER. Look for operators Silvano/I2YSB, Paolo/I2UIY and Marcello/
IK2DIA to operate from here, February 27th through March 12th.
Their callsigns will be issued after their arrival on the site.
They will use separate callsigns for SSB and CW/RTTY/PSK31. Also,
they will put on the air up to 3 stations when possible, operating
from 160-10 meters on CW/SSB/RTTY/PSK31 and on 6 meters on CW/SSB.
QSLs for both callsigns will be OK via the Bureau or direct to
I2YSB: Silvano Borsa, P.O.Box 45, 27036 Mortara (PV), Italy. A web
page has been activated at: http://digilander.iol.it/i2ysb/
There will be on-line logs and pictures available during their
activity.
6Y - JAMAICA (Update/High Schooling For DXing). The DXpedition
University (DXU), the first of its kind to provide a training
ground for energetic radio amateurs wanting to learn the founda-
tional methods and tactics of DXpeditioning, is getting ready to
hit the DXpedition trail. The group will be active from February
26th to March 6th signing 6Y8A or homecall/6Y5. Activity will be
on all bands from 160-6 meters, mostly on SSB and CW though some
PSK31 is possible. In addition to normal operations, the group
will enter the ARRL DX SSB Contest with a Multi-2 entry. Operators
will be Klein/WT6G, Mike/WA6O, David/K0COP, Tim/W6NS, Walter/N6XG,
and Kenny/K2KW. QSL 6Y8A via WA4WTG, others via homecall. The group
will have 4 stations with KW amplifiers on 160-6m,and use Force 12
vertical arrays for 160-6m. The DXU ops are learning the skills to
run them with the best, so give them a call to help them improve
their pileup skills! Questions go to Kenny, K2KW at:
k2kw@prodigy.net
Also visit the following Web page for more info at:
http://www.k2kw.com
There are 2 slots available if anyone wants to join the group.
MM0- SCOTLAND. Leo, W3LEO, will once again be active from Portpatrick
in southwest Scotland from about February 20th through March 14th.
However, Leo states that this is once again a vacation not a DXpe-
dition, and "time on the air will depend on the antennas, on prop-
agation, and on when the nearby pubs are open, HI..." His callsign
is MM0LEO and he plans to be in the ARRL International DX SSB Con-
test. He will use an Icom 706 (100 watts), a R-5 vertical [10, 12,
15, 17, 20 meters], and a 40-meter dipole [in inverted-V configura-
tion]. He will try and get on PSK-31. QSL via his CBA (with SASE)
or via bureau to W3LEO. Leo provided the following reference
numbers: IOTA - EU-005 [Great Britain]; CQ Zone - 14; ITU Zone-27;
Grid Square - IO-74ku and Worked All Britain [WAB] Square - NW-95.
XU - CAMBODIA. Frank, DL4KQ, informs OPDX that there will be activity
from here by a German group between July 15th and August 3rd.
Operations will be on all bands 160-10 meters including the WARC
bands and 6 meters using linears. Modes will be SSB/CW and possibly
RTTY/PSK31. A special emphasis will be on the low bands by DL4KQ.
Exact callsigns are still unknown. More updated information will
follow.
W - The Magnolia DX Association (http://www.mdxa.org) will be activate
Dauphin Island (NA-213) on 23-25 February.Look for W4D to be aired
from at least two stations (with beams, wires and amplifiers) on
all bands and modes PSK31 and RTTY. QSL via W5UE (Randy Becnel,
P.O. Box 170, Kiln, MS 39556-0170, USA) or through the *W5* bureau.
