Here's my first contribution to the PSION topic, after purchasing a
Psion Revo 2wks ago and having some help from Andy G0FTD, I've managed
to get going on portable Packet + APRS.

What you'll need:-

1) Psion Revo (plus 16MB model used here)
2) Docking kit for RS-232 port
3) Tiny2 TNC
4) PocPak

That's the basic "command-mode" way of portable packet, but why use
it just for talking to a Node or BBS ? Why not use the Revo for
APRS Messaging ? My tests were carried out using G8PZT's X-Router.

This is where the XTM DOS Emulator comes in handy. This program
is loaded onto the Revo and allows basic MS-DOS applications to be run.

By basic, I mean BPQ's SWITCH.EXE, EDIT.COM, X-ROUTER etc...

The APRS Messaging Shell on X-Router is the real gem on this set-up,
you can easily send messages whilst on the move.

The next stage to this set-up is to get myself a Kenwood TH-D7E
and use the built-in TNC connected directly to the Revo which will
give me all the portable packet I need. (just add gps!)

A real challenge would be to try the DOS-APRS software on the Revo ;-)

If this raises any interest then I shall publish the web-site URLs
for the software used. The weather in the UK is getting better and this is
a great excuse to get out and get some exercise, plus do some home-brew!
