psiJOURNAL is the NEW logbook program for the Psion Series 3a/c/mx range
of handheld computers.
Like it's big brother, JOURNAL for Windows, psiJOURNAL is completely FREE
of CHARGE. Amongst it's impressive list of features you will find:
+ Easy to use menu-driven interface
+ Year 2000 compliancy
+ Real-time or post-event data-entry
+ Can be used as a simple log book
+ Can be used as a mobile data-entry terminal for JOURNAL
for Windows - data can be downloaded to a PC using the
Psion Serial Link and imported into JOURNAL for Windows.
+ Can record Worked All Britain, Worked All Ireland and IARU
Locator squares
+ Logbook reports in Date and Callsign order
+ Detailed HELP file accessed from the menu, or by pressing
+ the <HELP> button
+ Quick search facility on any field
+ Status bar with real-time 24-hour clock display
psiJOURNAL is currently at Alpha Release 2. Please be aware that as ALPHA
software the program is not completely finished and may contain bugs.
Having said that, I am using it for logging my contacts when away from
home.
psiJOURNAL requires a Psion Series 3a/c/mx with at least 256Kb of memory,
optional Psion Serial Link (to transfer data to JOURNAL for Windows) and
optional Psion Parallel Printer Link (to print reports).
Any Psion compatible 80-column printer will work with JOURNAL. All reports
have been designed to print on A4 paper.
Being only 18Kb in size, I will be sending the program file as a 7+
transmission to PSION, entitled '7+ JOURNAL.OPA 1/7' etc. Alternatively,
you can download it from my web-site at:
www.g7lfc.co.uk
To install the software:
1 Copy the downloaded file to the \APP folder on your
Psion's internal disk.
2 Make sure that the SYSTEM screen is displayed on
your Psion.
3 Highlight the existing icon on the SYSTEM screen that
you want to be on the right of the newly added
psiJOURNAL icon.
4 Press <MENU>, access the APPS menu and select the
INSTALL option. The INSTALL dialog box will now appear.
5 Press the <RIGHT> and/or <LEFT> until JOURNAL.OPA appears
in the FILE NAME field.
6 Press the <RIGHT> and/or <LEFT> until INTERNAL appears in
the DISK field.
7 Press the <RIGHT> and/or <LEFT> until CURRENT appears in
the FILE NAME field.
8 When the values in the FILE NAME, DISK and POSITION fields
are correct, press <ENTER>.
9 The psiJOURNAL icon will now appear on the SYSTEM screen.
The first time you run psiJOURNAL, a data file, QSO.ODB, will be created
in the \DAT folder on your Psion's internal disk.
