PP3 is a simple packet radio terminal for the Psion Series 3.
It features a useful scrollback window, and has a split screen
display and a few useful facilities for packet radio.
PP3.OPA should be copied to any \APP\ directory, and installed using
Psion-I as usual. When run for the first time, the configure dialog
will appear. This enables the setting of the directory for captured
text, the directory for files to transmit, the local BBS callsign,
the TNC baud rate, and the handshake protocol.
The two directories can be set to any that already exist.
The BBS callsign is set as desired.
You are allowed to set the RS232 baud rate to any value in the list:
1200, 1800, 2000, 2400, 3600, 4800, 7200, & 9600
The handshake is selected from: NONE, RTS/CTS, or Xon/Xoff.
8 bit data, 1 stop bit and No parity are assumed.
This configuration is saved to a file called PP3.CFG in the M:\DAT\
directory. It can be changed at any time using Psion-Q.
Psion-T Sends a DAYTIME command to the TNC, which should be in
command mode.
Psion-B Sends a Connect command to the TNC, using the BBS call
set in the configuration dialog.
Psion-S Enables a file to be sent to the TNC, terminating with
a control-Z.
Psion-C Opens a capture file in the directory named earlier.
The file is named MMMDD.EXT. MMM is the current month,
DD is the day, and EXT is either WRD if a \WRD\ directory
is chosen, or TXT. You can open and close the file with
Psion-C at will, the text will be appended to the existing
file each time.
UpArrow Enter Scrollback display. Use LeftArrow, RightArrow keys
to view either side of 80 column page, and UpArrow, Down
Arrow keys to move between the 6 pages. 54 lines of 80
columns are stored. The Esc key exits this mode.
Psion-Q Configure PP3
Psion-X Exit PP3
Help key Shows a short help message.
PP3 continues to operate in the background when another application is
selected while PP3 is active.
PP3 has a two line type-ahead window. After 40 characters have been
typed in, the text moves to the bottom line. Nothing is sent to the
TNC until the first space is typed after 68 characters have been
entered. The text is then sent with an appending CR. The last 40
characters move to the upper line, and appear in italics to indicate
that the text has been sent.
Of course pressing ENTER, before 68 characters have been typed, will
send the text immediately.
The DELETE key should work normally.
Typing Control-C will bypass the type-ahead window and pass directly
to the TNC.
This program has not been fully tested. It was derived from a program
for the Series 3a, in answer to many requests. I have included the
OPL source code in the archive in case you wish to modify it to
incorporate your own ideas. It is not my intention to develop this
program further (I may be able to fix bugs, however).

Updates
-------
17th September 1994
The completion of I/O serial tx commands was not being handled correctly.
The code was changed to correct this.
The code was also changed so that PP3 has less demand on the CPU when
operating in the background.
22nd December 1994
Icon changed.
Delete operation was modified to correct a mistake.
29th December, 1994
Well, I have added a scrollback facility after all. Use UpArrow to
activate it. The LeftArrow and RightArrow keys move between the two
sides of an 80 column page, and the UpArrow and DownArrow keys move
between the 6 pages stored. Thus it stores 6 pages of 9 lines, i.e.
54 lines of text - you can type LL 50 at the BBS and scrollback amongst
the listing.
Esc or any other non-arrow key exits scrollback.
Please let me know if you would prefer a word-wrapped scrollback
display - i.e. 4 wrapped lines per page (13 pages). It may be possible
to toggle between both types!
