Hello and thanks for reading this bulletin,

I have just acquired a second PK232 from a silent key sale (so therefore
difficult to ask the question direct) and I am having difficulty in getting
the front panel LEDs to perform 'normally' when switching on.

The top left hand four LEDs (MULT, SEND, STA and CON) light for a second, then
ALL the leds on the main front panel are unlit (leaving just a single led in
the Tune window and the DCD led is dimly lit unless the threshold control is
turned fully clockwise). Occasionally, I have seen the the STA, CMD and PKT
leds flash together at a rate of about twice every second, but have not been
able to obtain the normal startup/autobaud sign on message on the screen.

Depending on the previous use/mode, the manual states that the Baudot led
should light after the initial top left hand four leds extinguish, unless the
TNC has already been initialised. Having another PK232, I have been sending
the KISS OFF sequence, resetting and taking the backup battery jumper out of
circuit to try and get it to reset; without success.
I have even tried changing both eproms and both rams (U2, U3, U4 and U5) with
newer versions but this time, the top left hand four LEDs are remaining lit
all the time, after switching on. The PK232 has 1987 eproms fitted and is
still the original "non-MBX" variety.

I have paket6.2, pakratt (versions 1 & 2) and winpack software available but
do not think the above is as a result of host/kiss mode problems; unless you
know different ? :-)

The manual suggests that if the above led sequence does not appear when
switching on (with only the power lead connected, no computers and no radio
leads) then to contact Technical Support. Unfortunately, AEA/Timewave do not
support the older "all-red" led units any more so I am wondering if anyone has
ever had the above problems themselves.

Any assistance/thoughts would be appreciated - will acknowledge all replies;
if no acknowledgement, please resend 48 hours later
