Graphite for Pocket PC - vBeta 2  Categorie: Education

  Have to represent a function of the type y = f(x) graphically? Graphite is
  made for you. It even lets you represent two functions at once.

The data entry interface is skimpy and not well designed, since using the
keyboard is mandatory, for example for numbers.

Once a function has been plotted, one click on the screen lets you set minima
and maxima for the x- and y-axes, scaled (or not) at your choice.

You can consult a table of values for the first function entered, the x values
spanning the range defined for display. No function for direct on-graph
“plotting,ö though.

Available functions are: power (relative and decimal), square root, logarithms
(decimal and Napierian), trigonometric functions (cos, sin, tan), absolute
value and opposites. In short, the basic functions are all there, except for
exponents, which are astonishingly unavailable. The absence of the constant pi
is also to be regretted.

Furthermore, those aren’t the only weak points in this application, still in
beta, which contains a few bugs:
- handling overall definitions isn’t the best: (cf. the screen shot alongside,
  with the behavior of function F2 at 0);
- using a negative number in a function is poorly supported; you can get around
  this problem by using the predefined “oppositeö function;
- a Save function is planned, but unimplemented (only the menu is there).

In fine, Graphite is already operational and might come in handy in a few
ways … but there’s still a lot of room for improvement.
