RSS Sync is an RSS aggregator for Pocket PC. The program draws from two
components: a pipe which installs under ActiveSync, and a reading program (a
client) on the Pocket PC.
The RSS Sync pipe that installs under ActiveSync is extremely high-performance
and configurable in a number of options, notably in the timing of
synchronisation, or to know if the synchronisation can be manual or automatic,
to adjust the amount of information taken from each site, etc, etc. It is from
these properties that the RSS flow is configured from the target sites that you
want to synchronise.
The client program, RSS Viewer which installs on the Pocket PC is very small
and offers an interface analogous to Internet Explorer to read the content.
This complete and highly functional solution is certainly the premier reading
program for RSS data on the Pocket PC. RSS, based on syndication in a XML
format is a sort of new AvantGo, more powerful and less consuming of bandwidth.
It is a shame that in the actual version synchronisation is only possible with
the Windows PC and ActiveSync and that you can't synchronise over the air. This
would increase the possibilities of the program, very seductive in the real
world.
What's more Windows Mobile 2003 and ActiveSync 3.7 is required, which reduces
the number of people that can use this very good app. It's a shame.
