Sometimes, despite our best efforts, we find ourselves in a situation where
radical, last-ditch methods must be resorted to, and you have found yourself
in just such a fix. I know it's a pain, but this sounds like one of those
situations where you simply must read the instructions. (grin)

I would also recommend that you get to know a local FBB SYSOP personally,
and pump them for information. In order to properly operate a Packet BBS,
you must get to know the SYSOPs of nearby BBS's anyway, in order to
establish forwarding of messages with them. Might as well let them help you
out a bit with the software setup too.

Remember: You are the new guy, and the SYSOP helping you out is the
"Elmer"... When in doubt, do as he or she suggests and you'll never go far
wrong. Running a Packet BBS is much more than just forwarding messages and
making them available to local Hams.. About 80-90% of being a good SYSOP
hinges on how well you can cooperate with other Hams, specifically your
forwarding partners.

Good Luck!

I have been trying to get my MFJ 279b to connect to my ic746 thru the acc1
accessory plug in the back of the ic746 instead of the mic connection in
front. I'm not having any luck and wondered if anyone else has had a problem
connecting through the acc1 plug. Thanks Dale WA5GVE

Rick's post is a little misleading. I followed the link and found that
you can download a demo version of Pacterm '98. The full featured
version is $79.95.

Harold,

The free demo mode can be used forever for NO CHARGE and does support
multisteam packet mode on ALL the Kntronics TNC. We did this because we felt
it was good for those who just needed packet support in host mode, and
didn't need the advanced features of the packet support or the HF functions.
I know many hams use this mode when they connect to a DXCLUSTER.

For someone using Pacterm for DOS, then this gives them even more
functionality since each packet connection is in a seperate window. Pacterm
'98 takes advantage of Kantronics host mode, which Pacterm dos doesn't.
