Subject: KAM firmware version question
I am trying to confirm weither or not there was a version greater than
5.0 for the older KAMs. This would be before the daughter board was
required. I've asked Kantronics three times, and I just get the common
"i dont know" answers.
Also, if possible, does anyone have an old 5.0 prom for KAM laying
around since youve upgraded possibly? Please email me if you do.

The units are the same size but internally they are completly
different internally. You cant upgrade a KPC3 to a KPC3+ at all.
Even the firmware is different. the KPC3 uses a 27C512 in a 28 pin
package, where as the KPC3+ uses a 27C010 kind of 32 pin eprom.
The only thing you can do with a KPC3, is upgrade its firmware to
version 8.2
KPC3+ came out almost two years ago I believe. Its latest firmware is
version 8.3, which only helps for GPS input in stand alone APRS
tracker applications.
For use in a APRS digi , version 8.2 for KPC3 or KPC3+ is all that is
required.

This TNC is exactly the same as a TAPR TNC2 revision 2 tnc. Tapr has
a few files on this tnc on their web site. I downloaded them once and
forwarded them to a JUNO user once.
