Subject: Help! Email 2 Packet 2 Pager?????

well well,

you sound a bit like me...

but it is great to be a ham!!

i'm trying to figure out what if any program will work with this nifty
thing i just recently got called a data slicer (texas2way.com) so that i
can rx packet. then maybe i'll look into tx'ing packet afterwards.

any help about the above would be appreciated.

as far as your pager project, i am in the paging business
(www.pagefox.com) and just filter/forward emails to my pager- done.

but to do it the way you say, eliminates a couple of hurdles... like
shelling out the stuff we use to buy other stuff at places like dayton,
gaithersburg etc.

i could sell you a couple things, but my best suggestion is a motorola
pocsag advisor, with a synthesized rx. board, or a crystal rx board or
both. i also have a couple of aftermarket (and i like better than the
oem interfaces) that are avail. for a fair price. the interface goes
from com port to advisor (also with jumpers and pin out info most other
motorola. pagers) for programming the capcode, baud rate, and so on. i
suspect you require 512 baud? some do all three baud rates 512/1200/2400
but for the most part either 512/1200 or 1200/2400.

the advisor has been discontinued for some time because of the old more
better different smaller flex reasons.

i still carry the advisor because it built like a brick whatever you
call it. the display backlights nicely and there are lots of cool
features that have never been incorporated in a motorola. pager since.
whoops maybe we shouldn't make the next generation of pager do that..
like over the air programming.

the other benefit is on amateur freqs. you can send much longer
individual messages rather than breaking them up into a bunch of 200 or
120 or 80 or 50 character messages, depending on the paging carrier.

most all commercial paging carriers offer a small (200) messages a month
for like $16 and up and up a month.

so look at my site if you want, e-mail me directly or lv. a voice mail
on 1800-724-3369 if you'd like to just brainstorm and share info.
