Where does someone who doesn't even know how packet radio works, get
informed?

Is this an alternative to a telephone line?
What hardware would I need?
Would I be able to use Internet over radio?
What are the transfer rates?
What about range? How far can I be from a repeater station in order to
get online?

What books/howtos/other doc must I read to find out what ham-radio is?

Whart does 'ham' stand for?

Oh... Forget Packet Radio my friend... You need to learn what a HAM is LONG
before you begin to learn about Packet Radio...

A HAM (I am sure it is an acronym for something) is nothing more than a
licensed Amateur Radio Operator. Get a license from your countries
respective Communications agency and start there...

Here's a good place to start to learn about Amateur "Ham" Radio. Off the top
of
my head I dont know a link specificly for packet radio. If I come across one
I'll try to post it.

Subject: KAM/Hostmaster/Pactor Mode

Hi,

Looking for help with the Kantronics KAM and HostMaster software.

I use the KAM updated through firmware Version 8.2E and HostMaster II
Plus Version 3.1 (1992).

This combination of versions makes Pactor mode inaccessible from
Hostmaster ('grayed-out' on Menu #2, PACTOR LISTEN and PACTOR STANDBY).
HostMaster operated on Pactor fine with an older KAM firmware version
but not the current version.

Any ideas in solving this problem? Contact me at:
