It's also because of these people that we don't have the influx of new hams
that we did 10 years ago.
That's my two cents.

Oh, yes... I can see where trying to get folks to stay on topic and utilize
Internet newsgroups as they were intended would be a terrible threat.
- To those who have a little trouble staying on topic, perhaps. ;-)
> It's because of these people that they want to take our bands away!
Yes, I remember just last week, when the FCC announced that several bands
were about to be taken away if hams did not start discussing CB radio on Ham
Radio newsgrouops, and visa versa.

Of course you are right. Using the Internet newsgroups properly, and staying
on topic is well known as the single greatest threat to amateur radio today.
> That's my two cents.
.... About three cents more than it was worth.

However, if the guy also followed the hierarchy, he would have arrived at
"alt.CB" (oops, none), or "rec.radio.cb" - and there would have been laughed
out of existence the same way he was here. Having found no digital CB group,
he abandoned hierarchial thinking and used relational thinking, and arrived at
some group with "packet" or "digital" in it. Where he went wrong was to post
to a group where Mr. CB, self appointed usenet policeman, lurks.

Which is also meant as a GUIDELINE not written in stone. The person ended up
asking the question where he thought he would get the most help (or at least
reach people who are doing similar things). Obviously, with you here, he was
wrong.

OK, so we should call everyone with the most descriptive noun that they
resemble. Fine, Mr. Asshole. You've been identified, cataloged, and filed.
Keep this up and the floggings shall commence.

I have a question on the Kenwood TH-D7 and packet operation. I am
trying to hook it up to my computer but I am not having much success at
doing so. I do have the cable supplied by Kenwood I also have the
latest ver. of MCP-D7 Version 0.01 Beta. I am also running a Gateway GP-
600 Computer with Win/98. I can not get the program to find my radio on
either com port ½ Can anyone point me in the right direction so I may
get back on packet with this radio..
