That's just not true young fella-ma-lad.
Being a *proper* radio amateur, all my radio equipment is not shop-
bought. I spend years making it from the junk which accumulates in my
trouser turn-ups and domestic household commodities.
Hence I need the sun to come up to operate, all the lightbulbs in my
house are used as dummy loads!
And a happy new year to all readers of this ng!

I think the GeoClock shareware programme is sufficient for the azimuth of
the sun at any time of the day. Download from
www.clark.net/pub/bblake/geoclock! If you are interested in grayline DX
this is a good programme!

Subsequent postings show this to be far from the case.

Did you notice that one "leap" second was added to the National Bureau
of Standards clocks at 23:59:59 UTC on 31 December? Presumably all
our clocks and PCs are now 1 second fast! :-)

There used to be a program called "moonrise" that was on the
alt.sci.astro ng (I think) that was very good. It would
allow you to set in the precise location for you, or check a
database for general locations by city. Then it would read
out the times for sunrise and sunset, and the location in
degrees for use with your trusty boy scout compass. Also
gave the same info for moonrise/set, and other interesting
stuff. I used it to predict the sun's location at these
times, and at transit (local noon) for architectural
photography. It was very inexpensive shareware, and well
worth the minor tribute.

Ha ha! A man after my own heart ... but in my case it was a bottle of
Courvoisier! Even after that, I was still able to rise in time to
take part in the "Happy New Year Contest" on 80m and 40m CW! Good
fun, and it was only 3 hours ... a sensible duration for a contest.

Subject: KAM HF port.
Hi there.
I have an early KAM with version 2.72 firmware.
Does any of the later KAM or KAM + allow 1200baud packet on the HF
port?
If so will a firmware upgrade do the trick?
Thanks.
