Subject: directpc uplink via packet radio?
Hi there:
I am a newbie in packet radio modem. I am aware the connection
speed of this device seldom exceed 9600 baud. With this kind of speed,
it's hard to do anything "graphical" at all. Since directPC has been
quite mature and available for us North Americans, I wonder if it is
possible to uplink part of the tcp/ip info via packet protocol and to
receive the fast downlink material via the satellite.
Typically, what frequency range is used for packet data
transimission? Is there a list for ham radio network ISP around? If I
don't want to subscribe to this service, is it possible that I set up my
own gateway in area I can tap into the internet and through it communicate
to my wilderness station somewhere else? Can it be reliably deployed in
mountainous terrain?
Thanks in advance. Please reply to this newsgroup.
Regards,
a curious newbie

The HD4040 is the same as a TAPR TNC1. If you do not have any luck
finding the heathkit
version, contact TAPR (http://www.tapr.org/).

www.tapr.org in the ftp directory, software-lib/tnc you will find

Subject: Wanted: Larsen NLA mounts
I have a bunch of old Larsen NLA mount style antennas (1/4 & 5/8 wave) which
I'd like to use, but Larsen no longer distributes the NLA mounts. I have two
NLA mag mounts, but am looking for the permanent mobile rooftop mounts (the
ones for which you drilled a 3/8" hole).
Anybody out there got any they'd be willing to part with?
Please respond by e-mail to TrombaHam@aol.com.
Thanks.
