It is supposedly possible to decode packet radio signals using a
SoundBlaster card, although I've not tried it nor do I have the
particulars. I'm sure someone can point you to the right information.
You can also get a TNC (terminal node controller) and hook it up to a
scanner to decode packets. Naturally, you can't transmit using a
scanner but you can at least see the packets coming across. With a TNC,
all you would need is a terminal program (HyperTerminal would do) --
tell the terminal program what COM port your TNC is hooked to and
configure for the proper baud rate, and you're ready to go.
