You do need a com board that will allow sharing of IRQ's as well. The STB
4com is one example of a simple 4 port card that does properly share
IRQ's. Some of the newer PCI async cards may also work but I have no
experiance with them yet.
Good luck..

I have only got two working ports on my PC, and need a total of four.
Two are for my two TNCs, one is for PC frequency control of the HF
rig and one for the phone modem.
I've tried adding a serial extension board, but need separate IRQs
of which I have none to spare.
Has anybody ever found - and used - a multiplexer which will allow
several TNCs to work from the same COM port?
If so, I'd like to know.
I'd also appreciate any other comments/suggestions which might be
helpful.

(Since your E-mail address is spam-blocked I will have to respond
here - out in the open.)

I'm running an FBB mailbox (GB7DJT), and I use the built-in FBB comms
driver for the TNCs.
FBB will not accept the same IRQ used for COM1/3 and COM2/4, and
Win95 tells me that there's a conflict if I try any other IRQs -
because (I
presume) - there doesn't seem to be any spare IRQs in my PC - they're
all spoken for.

Try downloading PK TERM'99 from http://www.timewave.com. It is a WIN95/98/NT
32-bit program. You can demo the software without charge in VHF and RTTY
listen modes, the activation key is $79.95 if you want full function.

I have posted a program as well as it's source code
(in Visual Basic v. 5.0) at the following website:

http://www.best.com/~wdunckel/d7zpinfo.htm

It includes the following functions:

1. Spectrum Analyzer "slow scan" - This scans any 4 Mhz
spectrum selected and graphs any activity with a signal
strength reading of 1 or above. Band needs to be in VFO
mode. Results are displayed on a chart/graph.
2. Dual signal strength indicators (one for each band) work
        simultaneously
3. Frequency control with up/down and step, as well as a/b band
and dual band selection and VFO/Mem selection.
4. A two line history of the communication so you can see what
commands are being sent to the radio while you use the program.
5. Push to talk and VFO scan can be selected with the mouse,
and the program should work on either comm port 1,2,3 or 4.
6. There is an area to enter unique commands manually using
the commands that were reverse engineered by Darryl Smith.

This program, again, is far from perfected, but appears to operate with
reasonable success on two of my machines. By the way, I have not
started to implement any APRS functions or settings in this program yet.
