Good question, I like them both but for different reason's. APRS+
mapping on Street Atlas is nicer, with more control, but no icons.
WinAPRS automatically transmit's my weather station data (RS WX-200),
and the display's for individual functions seem easier to work with. It
aslo will reference QRZ and several other CD callbooks which APRS+
doesn't seem to.
If I'm out, I prefer WinAPRS because the weather data is transmitted and
gives me an idea of what is happening at home. If I'm sitting here, they
both are fine. I think if you have both, you should work with them both
and see what suits your needs / wants.

I'm currently using packet gold, but I've upgraded to pactor firmware, so=
I'm looking for options.
The AEA/lightwave software looks nice, but the demo version only does VHF=
packet, so I'm looking
around before I lay out the cold hard plastic...

Subject: Help!: VHF/UHF Range Prediction
I am looking for [economical] ways to predict path loss between a base /
repeater and a mobile/handheld at UHF/VHF.
I'm interested in "local" propagation-- a few miles to tens of miles--
in cities with tall buildings and suburban areas with houses and trees.
I want to *quantify* the effect of things like height of base & mobile
antennas, and environment, having an HT antenna inside the car, etc, on
received signal strength.
I'm hoping to find some rule-of-thumb guides, simple algorithms or low
cost software. [I'm not really interested in DX propagation or
multi-thousands of dollar cellular industry software].
Thanks in advance.
