What's your feed / tuning arrangement?
Based on what I see on the page at
http://www.andrewscom.com.au/site-content-section-08-emtron.htm
the TEV-1 is simply an end-fed monopole/whip. Although it's described
as "broadband" I rather suspect that it's no more broadband than any
length of pipe of that length would be. It's going to need some form
of wide-range tuner, and a good ground and/or radials, in order to
work on multiple bands.
The Andrews page suggests four forms of feeding:
- with a wide-range "high-impedance" autotuner such as an SGC. In this
arrangement, it would be acting as part of the long-wire antenna
that these antenna couplers are designed for.
- With a 4:1 balun and a 50-ohm feedline, to a tuner in the shack. I'd
expect substantial losses in the feedline on many bands.
- With a high-impedance (e.g. "450 ohm") balanced feedline to the
shack, and then either a balun/tuner or (I believe) a tuner designed
to feed a high-Z balanced line directly.
- Inductive match (i.e. base loading coil), presumably for a specific
band.
I would guess that the simple autotuners built into many HF rigs would
probably not have the range to handle this antenna on most bands...
they're usually limited to flattening out relatively low SWRs, to keep
the finals happy. You'll need some form of wide-matching-range tuner
(e.g. a good external "T" or "L" matching box) to handle the wide
range of impedances that this antenna is likely to present on various
bands.
