Hello Henry,
The Appolo landing took place at the height of the Cold War, so if there
was ANY, even the SLIGHTEST hint the landing was a fake, you can bet your
boots the Russians would have been all over us! How true you write!
The reason there was no visible flame upon takeoff of the lander is
because of the fuel involved. The flame of a hydrogen/oxygen reaction is
a pale blue, nearly invisible. In the intense glare of the lunar day, it
is totally invisible. You have to look hard to see the flame from the
shuttle exhaust to see it in sunlight in Florida where the sunlight is
but a fraction as bright on the airless moon.
The RESULT of this reaction was plainly visible on the lunar surface with
dust being blown away, leaving a clearly defined pattern.
Of course the lander took of like a fly with the devil after him, lunar
gravity is 1/6 that of Earth. Even at that acceleration, the astronauts
barely felt the G force.
Then there is that classic picture titled Earthrise which I use on one of
my QSL cards. Considering the perspective, it would be rather hard to
fake and pointless to do so.
I am an avid reader of science fiction and enjoy reading these bulls.
(;->) Those critics are so much fun...
