I have some questions re. the assumption of NASA, there might (have been)
flowing liquid water on Mars. Nasa comes to this conclusion as they observed
gullies that looked as if they were formed by flowing water. Indeed the
pictures look that way. Maybe they were formed in the past.

As NASA already remarked; Mars has no pressure to speak of compared with Earth.
The atmospheric pressure is around 100 times less than on Earth. This means
that if one eg. would place a bowl of liquid water at the equator of Mars
(probably no freezing temperatures there) it would evaporate in an explosive
way. It would be like boiling however, this "boiling" would be finished in a
very short time (milliseconds ?)
This effect I guess could be compared if one would release an amount of
liquid naturalgas on Earth at eg. 20 deg. Celcius; it evaporates very
quickly if there is enough room to allow this. (eg. not a narrow hole)  
 
So liquid water now would instantly go from liquid into vapour. Because 
of the very low pressure it would stay that way. (and leave the planet 
because the low gravity ?) Could Mars have liquid water now despite
the extreme low pressurecondition ?   

Assume Mars would have solid water (ice) at the surface. What would
happen with this water ? On Earth we observe that ice goes from
solid into gas if the atmosphere is not too humid. (The effect of frozen
hanging laundry getting dry eventually)
If Mars has ice; could this only exist underneath layers of eg. sand ?

Mars seems to be a puzzle afterall.
