Norb's suggestion is a good one. I tried this and it partially worked.
My MSYS.HCL now consists of one line:
keep=200
I expected this to save the 200 most recent messages and delete anything
older. Well, it kept the 200 most recent messages from Jan 6 thru 4, but
it refused to delete old messages from Jan 2 and 1, so I had to delete
them manually.
I'm guessing that the Jan 2 and 1 messages were an anomaly because they
co-existed with the 1999 messages before the 99 messages were
hand-removed.
Well, at least this is a step forward. The KEEP command is very powerful
and you may want to try other combinations or variations.
