Hello MSYS Sysops,

Less than 90 days to the new millenium. Ready for Y2K? I don't think so.....

MSYS 1.19 is not Y2K compliant. Using it after Dec 31 will result in
garbaged R: lines in msgs, and probably many nasty emails from FBB
sysops. There are also other significant bugs.

There is a beta version 1.20 available for testing on WA8BXN's website at
http:// coffman.cba.csuohio.edu/~map/msys.html

Some folks have said that it works fine, but my experience (and others)
has been different. Although the Y2K problem has been fixed, we have
observed that there is a serious new bug which greatly SLOOOOOWS DOOOOWN
the processor during forwarding, or whenever it has to search through
messages, such as using the LM or LT command. Something is hogging CPU
cycles.

If you can download it from the internet, try it and see what happens
with your setup. In my view (and others) the 1.20beta is unusable.

Another caveat. The web page is not Netscape friendly. If you
download the files using Netscape, when you run MSYS you will crash
your system. For some reason, downloading with Netscape corrupts the
files. You MUST use Internet Explorer. Don't ask me why. It just IS.

Good luck.
