Msys seems to be a very windows-Friendy app.

Radio-Shack offers a USB to serial converter. it works under
windows 98 SE, but it was designed for WindowsXP. The price
is rather steep, i picked mine up for 40 bucks. it is a DB9
device so a DB25 to DB9 adaptor is also required. I tried MSYS
with the converter under windowsXP and was very surprised at
how well it ran. The converter does not offer hardware flow
control, but i did not encounter any buffer overflows at
9600 baud. out of the box MSYS ran good, but when i tried
to increase the max message size beyond 200 it kept running out
of stack space, and it would bomb out when any packet was
recieved. fix this by rick clicking on msys, selecting memory properties,
and give msys 640k conventional, 2 megs Xtended, and one meg
DPMI. don't know if msys actually uses XMS or DPMI but it didnt
hurt to set these.

If i ALT-Enter it to full screen it loses comms. my terminal
does this too so it must be run in a console. also under 98 no
dos comms programs will work.

is a nifty rig for using the BBS with a modern laptop, most of
which do not offer serial ports. Very good for running the bbs
off of emergency power also. Another use is if you want to use
your modern computer, many of which are doing away with serial ports,
with the bbs. I also use it for dummy-forwards to my main computer,
to keep a backup of the forwardable message base.

 good luck.
