There was discussion on packet a few months ago about the feasability of
using natural gas to fuel bus services. It was said that the tanks would
be too bulky, it would be dangerous to use an explosive gas in buses,
supplies of gas would run out, etc.

On the news last night was an item regarding the use of natural gas
powered
buses in the metropolitan area of Perth. There have been buses running on
natural gas as a trial for a few years now, and the trial has proved to
be a success. The Government has announced that the whole bus fleet will
be running on natural gas by the year 2010.

The benefits are obvious. There are huge reserves of natural gas in
Western Australia, a lot of it untapped so far, and pollution from exhaust
fumes will be greatly reduced.
