Hello Bob,
Ahhh yes indeed Bob I hope you are right about something will be
found. Unfortunately it is getting a bit late in the day.

The Hirsch report goes into the time required to develop alternatives and
then get them into full scale production. Their estimate is that it will
take 10 to 20 years.

They do not stipulate what the alternatives would be as that was not their
mandate, but to study what the ramifications are of oil depletion.

For a few years people thought that biofuels were the answer, but
unfortunately it now looks like that is not a goer.
Did you hear the report on the ABC about the 24 hour blackout in Karachi ?
It seems the power stations ran out of oil for steam raising because they
could not pay their bill.

I think you are right there will not be rampaging mobs like a swarm of
locusts running accross the country. That was the point I made that there are
some people who believe that.

I think we will change our lifestyle to be more localised in food and all
production.
Australia will if we husband our supplies have enough gas and coal to supply
our most important transportation and electricitry, until someone as you
say comes up with something. Wasn't it Mr Micawber who had that idea ?

If you want to know what I think will happen have a look at Transition towns
web site, they have developed an interesting plan for the towns of the
future. Whats more they have the local town council assisting them in
developing future changes to the town plan. There are many Transition Towns
and there is one in Australia at the Sunshine Coast in Queensland.

It will cost a lot less if we plan for the shortage than if we leave it too
late.

One thought, shouldn't we make plans now in case no one comes up with
something ?
