Earlier today I sent out a bulletin about the three types of writers and
commentators on peak oil, gas, coal and uranium.
There is a fourth group I should have mentioned. It is mainly inhabited by
governments and departmental officers.
They are best illustrated by the head of the Australian Bureau of Agriculture
and resouces when at the senate enquiry on peak oil said ;
"If the price of eggs was high enough roosters would lay eggs !".
When a discussion on a TV program took up peak oil, Peter Garrett, the bald
one (Minister for the Enviroment) looked at the floor and had nothing to say
until the discussion changed to something else.
Politicians usually do not answer letters querying them on government policy.
I tried this with my member Phillip Ruddock then Attorney General and got the
letter refered to another then minister who replied but somehow spun it over
to global warming.
I have had almost no effect on my state member who happens to be leader of
the opposition The last time I wrote, no reply.
I think they simply do not know what to say. In Queensland the Minister of
Sustainability has been drawing peoples attention to the looming problem and
the Queensland government is going to start a program of mitigation.
So at least one state is making a move.
South Australia is also looking at what they should be doing.
It is all probably 10 years too late.
