Hi Barry and all,
Not to add fuel to the fire (sic) but to reiterate what I said much
earlier, all hydrocarbon vapors exhibit much the same characteristics and
must be treated with the same cautions. The first article looks like a
defective product recall, something we in the States have been accusomed
to regarding the auto industry. That too I mentioned earlier but let's
not get off track. This short quote paraphrases much of what I wrote
earlier and outlines what I wrote about the petrol vapor explosion in
open air that killed my garage mechanic and his father.
Factors
1. LPG is heavier than air, and collected in the tray of the truck.
2. The gas cylinder valve was open, allowing gas to leak into the truck tray.
Recommendations
1. The gas cylinder valve should be manually closed when the vehicle is not in use.
2. Where practicable, LPG powered industrial vehicles should not be stored or transported where leaking gas can accumulate.
