OK Tony, but my point is that this has not happened in Australia as far as
I know, certainly not in this state where use of LPG (and natural gas) is
part of life. We cook with it, we light with it, we drive our cars on it
and there has never been a serious accident as far as I know and I have
been in this scene with LPG for about 45 years in house cooking, hot water
systems, and vehicle fuel. Every hospital, restaurant, service station
(where the product is sold) and house outside the metro area has an LPG
tank. What accidents have there been? - none.
On the other hand there have been several cases over here, and I am sure
in other states where an accident has resulted in a ruptured vehicle
petrol or diesel tank and the occupants of the vehicle have been
incinerated. Now that is not a hypothetical case, as is the likelihood of
an LPG accident, it has happened and many times.
We can chase will 'o the wisps or cry wolf all day and foretell disaster
which will probably never happen. LPG is safer than petrol as a fuel
because for one thing firstly it is almost impossible to rupture the tank,
and secondly because it is not as explosive as petrol.
I would ignore entirely what we read about accidents which have happened
in some foreign countries. I would want to know whether their safety
regulations are on a par with ours, or whether as happened in Russia some
years back when a nuclear accident was caused by lack of care on the part
of the authorities.
At about half the price of petrol I wil continue to use autogas as I have
for the past 20 years. I don't consider I am taking any risk and millions
of other vehicle owners agree with me.
I would be interested to see the documentation of gas tankers exploding
devastating an area of hundreds of km killing lots of people.. I have
certainly not heard of any and there have not been any in this state, or
in Australia as far as I can tell. My remarks re foreign countries still
apply here. What safetu standards have they compared to ours.By the way all
the LPG to rural areas comes in tankers in this state. No accidents
reported even though there may have been one or two rollovers..
