Hi Ian and all,
I'm not sure which "Chevy engine/gearbox" you mean unless it's the
Corvette LT-10 package, great for racing but IMO impractical for everyday
driving. You think that's a gas guzzler, I remember a guy with a Dodge
Super Bee with a hemi engine and 3 650cfm Holly quads, went like a bat
out of hell but had to stop for fuel every quarter mile. Not long before
he disconnected two.
Robbing dust bins for coffee grounds and egg shells was never a problem
for Lonnie Donnegan, his old man's a dustman. (Cute silly song.)
I can see why at least with European cars the most fuel efficient speed
has increased but not American. Body styling in both is aerodynamic and
the laws of physics as applied to internal combustion engines haven't
changed, it's all in the gearbox. Most here are 3 speed automatics with a
few 4 and fewer 5 speed manuals kicking around, Europeans are another
story. Here in rich man's land (Point Pleasant Beach) where waste is king
you should see the road monsters, Cadillac Escallades, a collection of
huge SUVs and yesterday I saw something I thought I'd never see this side
of Iraq, a military style Humvee. 'Twasn't military, I have no idea how
it got in civillian hands but distinguishable at a glance from the POS
civilian version that prowls the streets time to time.
