Hello Ian, and others ...

The neato thing Ian, is that you and I drove on differing sides
of the pond, and apart from the Wollie or MG Magneta, two English cars
my father drove, we had mostly American gas guzzlers, so the 1966 VW
fastback 1600cc I had was better then the old VW bug I remember from
the farm days. Yes the "bug" was all you said, and a dipstick to
check on fuel, but a lot better then the Americans on gas.

The important issue with the "Bug" was it always started in the winter
and it slide over snowdrifts...American cars couldn't do that.

I only got to drive one Citroen, and what a funny feel, like the
rear end was floating feeling when I stopped. Sorry can not really
comment on it.

as you talked about the stick shifter... My dad used a screwdriver
in his MG ... and I used one once in the VW.

Can not compare the VW with the 2CV, but I can pick between the
FIAT which they have introduced over here, as a part of Chrysler
BUT it is still a "Fix It Again Tony" ... I'll stick to having
if I can a Fusta < Brasilian VW >.

Well theres a few more, I can not compare with, and more research some
evening. For some reason when you mention bubble car, I think of
something then it goes... the front door entry contraption.

Oh ...just another observation of the VW "bug" and that was the gas
heater, if so equipped. I had one in the 66 VW Fastback ... it worked
so well in the winter, it burned the soles off my running shoes. It
brought back memorys in the future days of the Corvette, and that
needed Abestos mat between engine and firewall of car... you could
still heat the feet thru the wall....but then the Vette was a guzzler.

I wonder, even if it will come to Canada. It is going to be released
to the Indian market first. Right? And Warren and I know well to be
for sale here or the USA, it must come up to meet and exceed regaulations
for cars on our highways.

I'll just wait and see. In the meantime, I have located a Nissan and
Toyota dealer closeby, and both are open to me dropping by to see their
gems.

I also have the option of a rather large sailboat, and it has diesel
engine problems, as indicated by the low price... now if I could get
a revolutionary-type motor to go in the boat, I save 80% of the price
of this boat, and ...well an interesting motor. Wish I could get
a pontoon system and ...similar engine to take Yellow Submarine to
new heights.... now theres a sight on the lake....<snicker>.

Thanks again Ian ... you 've done it again... great posting.
