Hi Pete and all,
The dirt track for stock cars I went to was "wise glass" I have no idea
how to spell, somewhere on Staten Island, NY. There's a cool connection.
"Sonny" (Salvatore or Sylvester?) took us after meeting in his basement
CB room and often his son Jimmy was in the competition. Yup, we were the
channel 9 crowd before the FCC declared it the emergency and calling
channel. There was only one place to sit, in the stands, rather limited
real estate behind the milk factory of the same name. All gone now but
dragsters still run at Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ but since I
haven't listened to New York radio in years I don't hear those wild
commercials that start off with that famous Wipeout voice.
Actually that go-cart was one of our crude contraptions made from bits of
this and that scrtounged and collected over time and powered by a lawn
mower engine. Talk about taking your life in your hands. Safety
equipment? What's safety equipment? Never saw a welded tubular frame, as
long as the nails stay put I'll be just fine.
Huh, Carnival on TV is good for the masses that can't get there but then
you can't see the naughty bits. The English are pretty cool about it but
that lax period didn't last long, just a tickle and back to boring. Well,
at least I got to see one Benny Hill show with naked Angels.
Oh that HOWARD award, anything like the Darwin Award? Right, three of the
Stooges were HOWARDs with a Fine, a DiRita and a Besser thrown in. Joe
DiRita didn't last long unfortunately, Joe Besser (the second Curly Joe)
was stuck in his Stinky character from The Abbot & Costello Show and
ruined the act IMO.
Moishe HOWARD, Shemp HOWARD, Gerald HOWARD... heh heh heh...
