Hello Ian, and the need to just have a nice car ... which I agree fully
with you. I liked the wollsey 110 and the special. Also drove one
of the original minis, and they were right up there with the VW "bug"...
but ..I like to address this wire wheel and mags and whatever it is today.

I can remember well my neighbour and his MG wire wheeled car, and my father
out there helping him, due to having Morgans, MGs etc pre-war and all with
wire wheels. the first problem was keeping them clean, and having to
clean about the spokes and other surfaces, as well checking inside the
hubs so that the spokes didn't puncture the inner tube, but nothing like
having to adjust the spokes which if one had the equipment, well as dad
said, it was all a part of motoring. The Super Charged Morgan ended it's
life, or had it ended or modified, when the German Airforce decided that
my Dad's garage was a target, and the Morgan was spread over Halifax.

"Mag Wheels" were ...well I had mag wheels and nothing like what they call
mag wheels today. I look at them, and ok nice design but looks like painted
aluminium or whatever...no comparison to my Mags I got in Munice Indiana
at the sametime I got my shifter from the same area.

The Mags I have are machined. The so-called mags on the van aren't
and even have balance slugs.

With other thoughts creeping in Ian, and other Brits, is the Bristol
which was all aluminium body and flex hose exhaust and one mean motor
under the hood <bonnet> Super Charged. They also had electric windows
and were well ahead of their time, and real leather seats.

The Wolsley ...an ex-Police car was also interesting to drive too, with
leather seats, and high speed headlights on a separate switch...on coming
cars who didn't dip their hibeams beware. Of course it was re-called
due to the mistake.

Lately, the better cars here are from Asia. Mazda ...my father's last
car, with a hemi-engine, and was it ever peppy. Downside was the
head gasket that kept blowing, but then I subsituted with another
car manufacturer's head gasket and it sailed along until traded in
after dad passed away. Funny that 4 door family machine just didn't
seem like a speed bomb. But then look at the cars Mazda turns out now
and mmm...same engine we had...

Yep Toyota was and still is my choice of car, and I really still like
the Corolla. I go to the dealship and drive their new versions and
it is just as good as when I had the Trecel in the 1980s.

Thats about all ... but have enjoyed reading the postings from a few
who post the data they have from and about their cars, and the past.
