Well Pete, autogas (LPG) might be cheap in Perth and used to be cheaper in
the other states but at 99.9 cpl here in Albany it is a ripoff. . I got
rid of the car that was on autogas as the high price here meant there was
no saving in running costs as LPG does not give the same mileage as
petrol. There is at least a 10% loss of power.
My decision to turn in the large car on LPG for a small one using petrol
has shown dividends for me. I am saving money. At the price they ask in
this place it is not worth using LPG (autogas).
I think I know the reason for the high price in this city - the tourists.
They come through here either on their way back from the north to the
other states across the Nullabor and they refuel in Albany. Then too there
is the tourist traffic from the East going round the country in the
opposite direction. Both streams of traffic have to refuel here so our
friendly gas distributor Kleenheat which is owned by Wesfarmers who own
just about every retail company in the state and some in the Eastern
States make the most of it and jack the price up as high as possible. The
tourists have no alternative than to pay the price and be blowed to the
locals..
The result? Our locals are going for small cars. The performance of these
is very good these days anyway. I drove to Carnarvon and back on holiday,
2500 km at the speed limit, last year with no trouble at all. Enough
acceleration to pass the long road trains too.

>Thanks Barry for the Sydney info ... I guess you have to motor about
for a deal there ... and of course Bob, who has cheapo gas.
